I am suddenly being asked to get parental permission to use my computer, although I am the ONLY user, and I am an adult. NO family members on the account.

I am suddenly being asked to get parental permission to use my computer. I have NEVER had family settings. There are no parents. No children. Just me. I am the only person using my computer. No family at all. I have been using Windows computers (for my personal use) for about five years (always Mac before that) and have never seen this before.

What is going on, and how can I fix it??

Here is the error message:
"Sign in so you don't miss out.
You need to sign back in to your Microsoft account so you can send your parent requests when you want more screen time or need permission for certain apps and sites."

I tried clicking the "Sign in" button in this error window. I just get a new pop-up that says "Just a moment..." and it spins and spins and gets me nowhere.

This is an Acer Vero, about 4 months old.
Any help is much appreciated!

    The problem persists.

Logging out and back in; changing accounts between my family and work accounts; rebooting the computer...

    None solved the problem.

    Hello,

Try following these steps to resolve your issue:

    1. Sign in to Your Microsoft Account Online:
      • Go to Microsoft Account and log in with your credentials.
      • Check if your account is mistakenly categorized under a family group. If so, try to remove yourself from the family group.
    2. Open Settings.
      • Navigate to Accounts and then click Family & other users.
      • Check if your account is listed under a family group.
If your account appears as a child account:
      • Click on it and try to leave or remove yourself from the family group.
    3. Remove Family Features: Press Win + R, type ms-settings, and press Enter.
      • If Family Features is enabled, disable or remove yourself from any family-related settings.
Alternatively, you can do this by visiting Microsoft Family Safety and managing or removing any linked devices and accounts.
    4. Sign Out and Back In: Sign out of your Microsoft account on your computer (go to Settings, select Accounts then Your Info, and click Sign out).
      • After signing out, restart your computer, then sign back in with your Microsoft account.
    5. Update Windows: Go to Settings and navigate to Update & Security then select Windows Update and make sure your system is up-to-date.

If you have any further question, please do not hesitate to ask.

    Thank you.

Hi, and thank you for your reply.

Things are more complex than I remembered.

I have two accounts: one of them IS a family account, with my husband. The other is with my employer.

But neither of those has any children; the work account does not even have any family settings.

I have signed out of each one and back in; I will see whether I get this message about parental permissions again.

Seems that the signing in and out and in again may have fixed the problem.

I will reply with an update when I know more.

    Thanks again!
