Windows 10 is confused about what formatting is required (NTFS vs FAT32)

Windows 10 would not load on my windows tablet. Every time I tried turning it on, it said Windows needs to be repaired and said that File:\WINDOWS\System32\driver\sdbus.sys is missing.

I created a recovery USB on another PC and tried booting to the USB and doing a repair which was unsuccsesful on multiple attempts. I gave up on that and tried reinstalling windows with the recovery USB. When I select the partition to install Windows, it says "Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. Windows must be installed to a partition formatted as NTFS". I cannot proceed beyond this step. I formatted the partion to NTFS using Diskpart in command prompt.

When I returned to that step to install Windows, I was able to select the drive and proceed to the next step, but on the next step I got the error "Windows detected that the EFI system partition was formatted as NTFS. Format the EFI system as FAT32 and restart the installation."

I trued formatting the partition as FAT32 and was told it needed to be NTFS.

How do I proceed when Windows does not know what it wants?

Delete all of them. The Microsoft reserved partition is unnecessarily large. The partitions are not in the recommended order. The supposed layout is

    System - Reserved (16 MB) - Windows - Recovery

You may or may not use the "New" option before installing. The supposed layout will be created in any case, provided the entire disk space is unallocated.

Delete the partitions 1 and 4 on Drive 0.

Select New and create a partition, the installer will create a partition. select this created partition to install Windows.

    Hello Rodrigo,

Thank you for the information. I feel a little less confused now :). Can you give me a little more detail about what partition(s) need to be deleted and how?

You mentioned that I can delete the partitions. My tablet has multiple drives, one in the tablet and one in the attachable keyboard. Per the installer it looks like it will allow me to delete all partitions on drive 0, which I believe is the drive in the tablet. I have included a picture for reference. Should I delete all partitions on drive 0 using Windows Setup? I don't want to delete a partition that would mess something up.

FYI, I have been trying to install Windows on Drive 0 Partition 4.

    Thank you much!

    Hi,

I'm Rodrigo and I'll help you.

These are two different partitions that require different formats.

The partition to install Windows must be formatted using NTFS file format and the EFI partition must be formatted using FAT32 file format.

To make the process easier you can delete the partitions and create the partition from the installer (without Diskpart), the installer will create the partition in the format needed and will automatically create the system partitions (Recovery, EFI) in the right format automatically. Then, you can select the partition to install Windows.
