Why is the Remote Desktop app on my Windows 11 Laptop? I thought Win11 Home doesn't come with Remote Desktop?

I thought I asked this question a long time ago but apparently not

the Windows Remote Desktop Connections app exists on my Windows 11 Home system, but I thought Remote Desktop wasn't available on Home devices?

I thought it was only Pro versions that have access to the Remote Desktop app.

to be clear, I do not use anything involving Remote Desktop so I wouldn't have gone out of my way to get it at any point, nor do I think it's suspicious. I'm just wondering

is the Remote Desktop app SUPPOSED to be on Home? are you just unable to do anything with it?

I can also toggle Remote settings in Advanced System Settings (it's toggled off), which is again confusing

side question that I didn't want to start an entire new thread for;

in the CBS logs of my Windows 10 Pro system, among the multitude of irrelevant packages that Windows Updates plan and evaluate, I noticed ones called "RemoteFX-VM-Setup" and "RemoteFX-Graphics-Virtualization"

these appeared on the Patch Tuesday, and a routine update cleanup on the 15th, but there is no mention of them on my Windows 11 system?

I don't really understand the packages in CBS logs, because often times it mentions things I don't even have on my computer

but I don't know why these RemoteFX mentions only appear on the CBS logs of my Windows 10 system

also, I used to look at CBS frequently late last year and early this year, and RemoteFX was never mentioned. I couldn't possibly say when it would've started getting mentioned in CBS though

    Hello, thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community. I'm here to help with your questions or issues. Just note – this is a place where passionate Microsoft users help each other, we don't work directly for Microsoft.

    You’re right that Windows 11 Home doesn’t support full Remote Desktop host functionality. However, the client app, called "Remote Desktop Connection", is indeed present on all versions of Windows, including Home editions. This allows you to connect to another computer running the Remote Desktop host (typically a Pro or Enterprise edition of Windows).

    So in short: Yes, the Remote Desktop Connection app is supposed to be there, but you won't be able to use your Home PC as the host for other devices to connect to.

    Now, about the "Remote Desktop settings", this actually refer to Remote Assistance, which is different from full Remote Desktop.

    Regarding your question about the RemoteFX entries in your Windows 10 CBS logs: RemoteFX is outdated and has been removed from newer Windows versions due to security concerns. It's typical for Windows Update to handle old components on older systems. You don’t see these entries in Windows 11 because RemoteFX is no longer applicable.

    Hope this clears things up! Let me know if you have more questions.
