How to find Bitlocker recovery key?

Anonymous

I am trying to access my Bitlocker recovery key so that I can log into my laptop. I go to my Microsoft profile online - then Devices - then Security and Bitlock security data. Normally I would expect to have my recovery key showing, however it says that no code has been downloaded on my microsoft account. Can anyone help with recovering my Bitlocker code?

thanks,

Florentina

The Bitlocker recovery key for your computer was stored in the Microsoft account that was used to setup Windows. For example:

If you purchased a brand new PC from one of the major brands (HP, Lenovo, Dell, etc.), when you pushed the power button for the first time, to setup Windows, you had to sign in to your Microsoft account (or create a Microsoft account, if you did not already have one.) Your computer's Bitlocker recovery key is stored in that Microsoft account.

    Another example:

If you ever reset your computer - meaning that you erased the hard drive and reinstalled all your software - then when you reinstalled Windows, you had to sign in to your Microsoft account. Your computer's Bitlocker recovery key is stored in that Microsoft account.

On the other hand, if you received a previously used computer, its Bitlocker recovery key is stored in whatever Microsoft account was used to setup Windows on that computer. Or if you ever gave your computer to a repair shop which reinstalled Windows on your computer, the computer's Bitlocker recovery key is in whatever Microsoft account the repair shop used to reinstall Windows on that computer.

By now I believe you get the idea.

Once a Bitlocker recovery key is stored in a Microsoft account, it stays there forever.

Thank you. When I log into my Microsoft account and try to recover the bitlocker there in Manager Recovery Keys, or using the link https://account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey****I **** get the following message:

‘You don't have any BitLocker recovery keys uploaded to your Microsoft account.’

What does this mean? Is the key stored on my PC?

    Thanks,
