Can you please update this response now that the properties window no longer has a location tab?

    Hi, colbymommy

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

We understand that you want to change the default save folder and file type for photos on your Windows 11 computer, suggested - you can follow the steps below:

Change the default folder where your photos are saved:

Open File Explorer by pressing Win + E or clicking the File Explorer icon in the taskbar.

By default, navigate to the folder where you want to save your photos.

Once in the desired folder, right-click on any empty area in the folder and select Properties.

In the Properties window, switch to the Location tab.

Click the Move button to browse to another location, and then select the folder where you want to save the photos.

Click Apply, and then click OK to save the changes.

Close the Properties window and File Explorer.

Change the default file type for photos:

Open the Settings application by clicking the Start button and selecting the gear icon.

In the Settings app, click Apps.

On the Applications and Features page, scroll down and click Default Applications.

Scroll down to the Photo Viewer section and click the current default app.

Select your favorite photo viewer app from the list. If the app you want is not listed, you can click More Apps and browse for the app you want to use.

Once you have selected your favorite photo viewer, it will become the default application for opening photos.

To change the default format in which photos are saved, you may need to adjust the settings of the photo viewer application itself. This is usually located in the application's settings or preferences, where you can set the default format for saving images.

Please note that these instructions are for changing the default save location and photo viewer application. The default file type (e.g. JPG, PNG, etc.) is usually set in the application used to edit or view the photo. If you want to change the default file type used to store your photos, you may need to do this in the specific application used to take or edit your photos.

For example, if you are using the Windows Photos application, you can change the default save format in the following way:

    Open the Photos app.

Click the three dots in the upper-right corner to open the menu.

Select Settings (which may be represented by a gear icon).

Look for options such as "Save a copy of edited photos" and choose your preferred format.

    Sincerely
