Multi Monitor Setup: gather all windows

Hi, I have severe, really severe problems working with Windows 11.

The issue I have is this: My usual setup consists of two monitors, one "Main" monitor (the laptop) and an another monitor, which is connected to multiple devices.

Even though my laptop monitor is my "main" monitor, and even though I unchecked the box that windows should remember their position based on monitor setup, there are still windows and worse, dialog boxes opening on the secondary monitor. This is highly annoying, as that freezes the program, and if I cannot see the second monitor (because at that time it is displaying something else), I cannot access the diaolog box, I can't move the window, I can only use the task manager to stop the program, but even then I cannot restart and continue to work, because the dialog box will STILL open on the wrong monitor. How can I get all windows and dialog boxes to ALWAYS open on my main monitor? How can I call ALL windows and dialog boxes to my main monitor if they don't open there. I know I can use the Windows+Arrow-UP-RIGHT-DOWN-LEFT to move a regular window to my main screen, which is a bit tiresome but works. But how can I move a dialog box to my main monitor if I can't see it on my secondary monitor? I no longer have the option to cascade windows or anything like that... this multi window setup sucks. The only things I could do is to "duplicate" windows, which would not be advisable (as then theoretically the wrong information could be displayed on monitor 2 in the wrong moment), or disconnect the other monitor (which would also be a hassle).

Hi and thanks, but that doesn't solve my issue at all.

The problem is that Windows 11 just is not very capable of multimonitor setups, at least it doesn't seem to understand some of the configuration problems.

I just want all windows and dialog boxes to always open on my main screen, because otherwise, I have serious problems. Like right now, I opened up a program (ok) and when I opened a settings dialog box, the settings box opened on screen 2. I cannot currently see what's on screen 2, and I cannot move the dialog box to my main screen. The only solution is to open the task manager and brutally stop the entire program. When I re-open it, the same problem remains. So I can only close the task and wait for a time where i can see again what is on screen 2 (which is currently showing a something from a different computer).

Why is it so hard to get a command that gathers all open windows (and/or dialog boxes) on one screen?

I had the same issue, but I have resolved it by opening the display settings.

changing the scale to 125% and back to 100%. this brought the lost dialogue box back to the main screen.

So nobody has a solution for this?

It's really a serious issue: sometimes, dialog boxes open on a second monitor, which may at the time not be visible.

How can I move them? The only action I can take is to open up task manager and throw out the app, but even then chances are, if I re-open it, the dialog boxes will still open on the wrong screen.

Nobody at Microsoft ever works on a multi monitor setup where they need all the Windows to only open up on the main screen?

    Regards

    Nick

Not sure how this relates to my problem.

Basically all I want is that all apps open on my main monitor, no matter where they were closed the last time. I deactivated the "remember the position of the window" checkbox already, but STILL the windows open sometimes on monitors that, while they are connected, are showing something else (another PC). The secondary screen is always connected (it would be a hassle to connect and disconnect it), but there are several PCs attached to that one screen, so I can't always see the secondary screen of MY PC. That's why I would want ALL apps and dialog boxes no matter what to always open on my main screen. I don't understand why such a simple thing is such a hassle in Windows 11. And since I don't have a "cascade" command anymore, I can't re-order the windows. I can't even always get the windows with the "arrow" keys to appear on my main screen, because once there is a dialog box, I can neither see nor move nor close it. Multi monitor setup is close to useless in Windows 11, because it can't seem to be configured.

Hello. Honestly it Sounds like you should be on a four monitor setup. If it is a Windows prompt that is asking for premissions you can change that dialog box not to appear. It is called UAC if you lower the settings that permission box will not pop up. Usally it asks do you want to run meow.exe click Yes /no

You can also add the program to the " allowed " list in firewall settings (if you use firewall).

It can be a security risk to lower settings if you install/run a lot of programs.
