How to completely and permanently disable/delete Windows Compatibility Telemetry?

Hello. I need Windows Compatibility Telemetry gone from my PC.

I play some older games on my PC, and every time I launch them (they work fine btw) that compatibility thing goes crazy, using almost 100% disk in Task Manager.

I read somewhere that I need to disable "Connected user experience and telemetry" service, but that is not truth. I disabled it, but Telemetry is still running from time to time.

Any advice and solution are welcomed, thanks in advance.

If anyone stumbles upon this in future, with same question - this is what helped me.

So far, Telemetry didn't started for 10 days, after this.

    1. Click Start, type Task Scheduler, and then press Enter.
    2. On the TaskScheduler window, go to this path: Task Scheduler Library\Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience.
    3. On the Application Experience folder, look for Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser.
    4. Right-click on it, select Disable, and then confirm to complete the process.

Hello, SteveJ___,welcome to the Microsoft Community.

Thank you for your feedback. If you want to completely disable the Connected user experience and telemetry service, you can do so by following these steps.

Press Windows + R, type regedit, and open the Registry Editor. Then navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\

Delete the DiagTrack entry, and after that, the service will no longer start.

Disclaimer: Modifying the registry or working groups is typically intended for advanced users, administrators, and IT professionals. It can help fix some issues, but improper registry modifications can lead to serious problems. For further protection, please back up the registry before making any changes. For more information on how to back up and restore the registry, check: Registry Backup and Restore.

I hope this information helps you.

I did that, but Telemetry is still running. I had new windows update (major-ish update which requested PC to be restarted - in update history it's named as "Cumulative update KB5043064"), so I thought maybe registry respawned itself, but it didn't.

I also noticed that I don't have "Connected user experience and telemetry" on list of services anymore, I don't know if it has something with deleting that registry or new windows update, but service is gone.

I have no "Connected user experience and telemetry service" and no "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services" registry entry, but Compatibility Telemetry is still running every time I start "older" software.
