    Dear #seahawk#,

Thank you for reaching out to the community.

I understand how frustrating it can be to experience automatic shutdowns when trying to update the driver for the Microsoft ACPI Compatibility Control Method Battery, especially on your HP-15 laptop. Let me assist you in troubleshooting the issue.

In order to provide the most accurate and effective solution, I would need a bit more information from you:

    1. Can you please confirm the specific model number of your HP-15 laptop? This will help me identify any model-specific issues or driver recommendations.
    2. How are you trying to update the driver? Are you doing it through Device Manager, the Windows Update page, or using third-party software? Different methods of updating may have different outcomes, and this information will help guide the next steps.
    3. Are you seeing any error messages or blue screen (BSOD) when the shutdown happens, or does the computer simply turn off without warning? If you do receive an error message or code, it could provide further insight into the issue.

In the meantime, I recommend trying the following steps:

    • Safe Mode: Try updating the driver in Safe Mode to see if the shutdown persists. Safe Mode loads only essential drivers, which could prevent any conflicting drivers from causing issues.
    • Check for BIOS Updates: Sometimes, updating the BIOS on your laptop can resolve hardware driver issues, especially those related to ACPI (power management).
    • Uninstall and Reinstall the Driver:
      1. Open Device Manager.
      2. Find the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under "Batteries".
      3. Right-click and select Uninstall device. Restart your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.

Once I have more details from you, I can provide a more tailored solution.

Please let me know if you can try these steps or share additional details.

    Best Regards,

Martin | Microsoft Community Support Specialist

    Dear #seahawk#,

Thank you for providing more information about your HP-15t-dw300 CTO laptop and the details of your attempts to resolve the issue.

Let's try additional step to resolve the issue and ensure your laptop's battery management system is functioning correctly. Downloading and installing the latest drivers directly from the HP support website can help ensure compatibility. Go to the HP Software and Driver Downloads page. Download and install all drivers under the Driver-Chipset and BIOS-System Firmware categories. These drivers are crucial for power management.

Typically, the driver you are trying to update do not need to be specifically updated and do not show a yellow exclamation mark in the device manager. If the problem persists after installing power management related drivers, it is most likely a compatibility issue with the device, and it would be wise to contact the manufacturer. Thank you for your patience and cooperation. If you have any further questions or need additional support, please do not hesitate to reach out.Best regards,Martin | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
