Updating Intel graphics driver not working?

I am trying to update my Intel driver to the latest version. I am currently on 31.0.101.5592 and my MSI Center is showing 32.0.101.5592 as the latest version available to update to.

Unfortunately, MSI doesn't automate the process so I have to download the driver update and install manually and this is where I'm having an issue.

The folder containing the driver is a zip file so I have extracted the folder. I ran the installer as admin and it says the driver to be installed is the same version as what I currently have on my PC, which is confirmed as 31.0.101.5992 in device manager.

What do I do now? Am I correct in thinking the 'installer' application is usually the correct way to install a driver update?

Also, I tried loading the 'Gfx Download Wrapper' application and nothing happened. Have I done any damage by doing this?

I also tried loading the Window install batch file which opened a CMD and said denied and then closed and I can see the update hasn't been installed. Did I do any damage by loading this?

Many thanks

    Hello, OnlyAlex22

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

Thank you for your feedback. It looks like you're having some trouble updating your Intel graphics driver manually. Here are some options for troubleshooting:

    Uninstall Current Driver:

    • Open Device Manager (you can search for it in the Start menu).
    • Expand the Display adapters section.
    • Right-click on your Intel graphics device and select Uninstall device.
    • Check the box that says Delete the driver software for this device and click Uninstall.

    Restart Your Computer:

    • After uninstalling the driver, restart your computer. This will ensure that the old driver is completely removed.

    Download the Latest Driver:

    • Go to the official Intel Download Center.
    • Search for the latest driver for your Intel graphics model.
    • Download the correct driver for your operating system.

    Extract the Driver Files:

    • Extract the contents of the zip file you downloaded.

    Install the Driver:

    • Navigate to the extracted folder.
    • Run the Setup.exe or Installer file as an administrator (right-click the file and select Run as administrator).
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

    Verify the Installation:

    • After the installation is complete, restart your computer.
    • Open Device Manager again and check the Display adapters section to ensure the new driver version is installed.

Installer Says Driver is the Same Version:

    • If the installer says the driver version is the same, it may be due to a miscommunication between the installer and the device manager. Ensure you have completely uninstalled the previous driver and restarted your system before installing the new one.
    • GfxDownloadWrapper Application:
    • Running the GfxDownloadWrapper application should not cause any damage. It's likely a part of the driver update process. If it didn't do anything, it might not be necessary for your update.

    Batch File Denied:

    • If the batch file was denied, it might be due to insufficient permissions. Ensure you are running it as an administrator. If it still fails, it may not be necessary to run this file for the driver update.

Sometimes, Windows Update can automatically find and install the latest drivers for your system. You can check for updates in Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.Intel provides a tool called the Intel Driver & Support Assistant which can automatically detect and install the latest drivers for your system.

Thank you very much for your help. I contacted MSI, the manufacturer of my laptop and they told me there isn't an available update and they accidentally uploaded the same driver version as I have installed now.

Many thanks for your help today.
