How can you check to see if my computer is safe? I received a warning on my computer yesterday that my computer has been hacked and I was able to get in. So I was informed to reach out to you. But how do I know if this was really Microsoft tech that I was dealing with yesterday.

    Hello, Annette Horton

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

Hello, thank you for your feedback on your issue here. It appears that your computer may currently be under hacking attack.

If you suspect that your computer has been hacked or compromised, I will provide you with some suggestions to assist you:

    1. Disconnect from the Internet: when it is determined that it has been hacked, disconnect from the network. This helps prevent further unauthorized access.
    2. run an antivirus/malware scan:

Run a full system scan using reliable antivirus software.

    1. Check for installed programs:

Browse the list of installed programs for any suspicious or unfamiliar items. Uninstall any programs you don't recognize.

    1. Update software:

Make sure the operating system, antivirus software and all applications are updated to the latest security patches.

    1. Review security settings:

Check your firewall settings to make sure they are enabled.

If you are using Windows, enable security features such as Windows Defender.

    1. Change passwords:

Change your account passwords, especially for sensitive accounts (e.g., banking, email, etc.). Use strong and unique passwords.

    1. Check for unauthorized access:

Check your account's recent activity for any signs of unauthorized access.

    1. Monitor system performance:

Keep an eye out for strange behavior, such as unexpected crashes or performance issues.

    1. Verify the source: Microsoft technical support will not contact you without you initiating contact with them. Be wary of unsolicited calls or messages that may claim to be from Microsoft but may be fake, and if it's a link then beware of possible fraudulent links.

    Best regards

    Hello Annette,

To ensure your computer is safe, I recommend running a full system scan with your antivirus software. This will help detect and remove any potential threats. Also, Microsoft will not directly contact you to inform you that your computer has been hacked and ask you to contact them. If you receive such a message, it is likely a scam. It is better to ignore it or report it as a scam.
