W key not working while gaming

I recently purchased a new charger for my laptop as both my battery and charger were faulty. I am now running my laptop directly on the charger, without the battery, since the battery is still broken. The issue I am facing occurs while playing games like GTA V or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. I use an external keyboard while gaming, and specifically, the 'W' key on the external keyboard does not function consistently—it sometimes works and sometimes it doesn’t. However, when I use the built-in laptop keyboard, the 'W' key works perfectly fine.Could this issue be related to running my laptop without a battery, or could it be a power issue from the charger? Any advice on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

In summary, while the lack of a battery is probably not the main issue, power inconsistencies could still affect USB peripherals. Start by checking the power situation, then try different USB ports, update drivers, and test with another keyboard if possible.

There might be other avenues to check but I'm sure that by looking into the above we could probably get to a solid fix for your situation.

Let me know how it goes!

    Cheers,

    1. Try Another External Keyboard:
    • If you have another external keyboard, give it a try to see if the same issue occurs.

This will help determine whether it’s an issue with the keyboard itself or something related to power or software on your laptop.

    1. Keyboard or Driver Issue:
    • There could be a compatibility or driver issue between the external keyboard and your laptop, especially when under load during gaming.

Update the keyboard driver by going to Device Manager > Keyboards > Right-click on your external keyboard > Update Driver. You can also try uninstalling and reinstalling the driver.

    1. USB Power or Interference:
    • Gaming typically draws more power, which could cause USB devices to behave erratically if there’s not enough power supply.
    • If the external keyboard is USB-powered, it could be experiencing a power drop or interference when the system is under load (like during gaming).

Try plugging the keyboard into a different USB port or using a powered USB hub to ensure it’s getting enough juice. If the issue occurs only with a particular USB port, it may be a sign of that port not delivering stable power.

    Hi Abbasi,

My name is Mote checking in to see if I can assist the issue described above.

It sounds like an annoying issue, but it’s unlikely that running your laptop without the battery is causing the problem directly. However, there are a few possibilities to look into:

    1. Power Stability
    • Running without a battery means your laptop is completely reliant on the charger for power. If the charger doesn’t provide consistent power, especially during high-performance tasks like gaming, it can lead to inconsistent behavior.
    • Some laptops reduce performance when they don’t have a battery to preserve power. This could affect USB ports and peripherals like your external keyboard.

Check if your laptop's power settings are limiting performance. You could also try a different power outlet or another charger if possible to see if the issue persists.
