Sign-in options unavailable

I was forced to change my pin from a 4 digit to a 6 digit number (which I am pissed about and is just another miniscule reason to add on top of the mountain of issues with Windows 11 laptops which are very un-user friendly, illogically designed, obnoxious and obtrusive to the point where I absolutely hate this product and will never buy another Window's computer ever again and dissuade even a random stranger from buying) and I wish to change my pin to something else. However, whenever I went to my account settings, apparently all of my sign-in options are "currently unavailable" accept for Sign In with a physical key option, which I do not wish to utilize. I have tried restarting my computer and it is currently up to date on updates.

    Hello, this is Emily.

It sounds like you device is linked to some organization group policy. Go to Settings > Accounts > Access Work or School, see if you have a work or school email listed there? If so, click on it, then disconnect. Restart the computer and see if that addresses the Windows Hello issue.

If I can take a guess, you probably use Microsoft 365 via a work or school account? If so, when you set up Microsoft 365 and signed into your organization account, there was a pop up asking if you allow your orgnization to access Windows settings, you probably didn't pay attention there and clicked Yes. This will then allow your organization's security policy to apply to your computer, usually it will require stronger PIN, and once set up, it will not allow you to change locally. If you ever see that pop up again in the future, uncheck the box to allow it, or choose "for this app only".

Hey there, sorry to hear about your Windows 11 Sign In Issues,

I've ran into this issue a few times and the first time it was pretty annoying. It seems that your school or work account is interfering with your ability to change your PIN or manage any other Windows Hello issues on your Windows 11 laptop. This is a common issue when such accounts are linked to your device.

Here's what usually works for me:

    1. Disconnect the School or Work Account:
      • Go to your Settings app.
      • Click on Accounts.
      • Select Access work or school.
      • Find the account you want to disconnect and click on it.
      • Choose Disconnect.
    2. Set Up Your New PIN:
      • Go back to your Settings.
      • Click on Accounts.
      • Select Sign-in options.
      • Under PIN, click on Add.
      • Follow the prompts to create your new PIN.
    3. Reconnect the School Account (Optional):
      • If you need to keep your school or work account connected, you can do so.
      • However, ensure you do not grant the account permission to make changes on your PC. This should prevent future conflicts.

    Additional Tips:

    • Check for Updates: Ensure your Windows is up-to-date. Sometimes, updates can resolve such issues.
    • Temporary Account: If you're having trouble with your main account, you might try creating a temporary local account to see if you can change your PIN there.

By following these steps, you should be able to successfully change your PIN and avoid future conflicts with your school or work account. Please let me know how it goes.
