BAD Color Banding with RTX 3060. Any Fix or Solution to this?

Anonymous

there are many posts related to color banding, especially RTX 3060. Well, I am also looking for a solution. Yes, like others I have also done all the things that are on the internet but could not find a solution, absolutely none. As you can see in the photos (these are screenshots, but the full screen recording output sometimes is much worse)

Monitor - ViewSonic Elite Gaming Monitor XG270Q - 2560x1440p 165hz
Graphics Card in Use - RTX 3060

Things Done -
1 Changing color profiles - From default to Manufacturer
2 upgrading and downgrading drivers (Motherboard and GPU drivers)
3 Tweaking registry

4 buying new DP 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 and trying them
5 changing the settings (color bit depth from 8 bit to 10bpc)

I had AMD before and I never spent a second in my life on such things (that was a decade old Dell with 6bit+frc and 15-inch screen), for me color banding never existed in that timeline.
Can anyone suggest me a solution.

    Thanks for the update.

Indeed, I see no problem with your idea.

Since I personally am a dual system user in my daily life, I understand very well what you are talking about.

My friend, if it's convenient for you, could you then inform me of the solution provided by NVIDIA, I'm also very interested to know how they will solve this problem, thank you very much!

    Have a nice day!

    Hi BLUE Bureau

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Based on your description, I understand that you are experiencing bad ribbons with the RTX3060, and I understand very well how you feel!

You have tried very many solutions and I commend you on your problem solving skills and thinking!

I myself use an RTX3070 and I empathize with you and indeed there are many RTX3060 users in a similar situation.

I'm going to give you some of the solutions I've used myself and solved my problems, and hopefully they'll apply to your situation as well.

Option 1: Disable all ICC profiles.

    1. Click “WIN key” to open the search bar -> type “Color Management” and open it.
    2. Under Devices tab, check “Use my settings for this device”.
    3. Select all the profiles listed here and click Remove.
    4. Reboot your computer to take effect.

Please note: I personally recommend that you make a backup or take a screenshot of the configuration files when you remove them again, just in case.

Option 2: Adjusting Calibration Loader Settings

    1. Click the “WIN key” to open the search bar -> type “Task Scheduler” and open it.
    2. Expand “Task Scheduler Library - Microsoft - Windows” in order.
    3. Scroll down to “WindowsColorSystem” -> Find “Calibration Loader” in the right pane.
    4. Right click and select “Properties”.
    5. In the window that opens, select “Settings” in the upper tab.
    6. Uncheck “Allow task to be run on demand”.
    7. OK
    8. Right-click on the task again and select “Disable”.
    9. Reboot your computer to take effect

Option 3: Try performing a monitor calibration to ensure that the calibration tool or software matches the color output to the standard settings.

Other than that, I would personally recommend posting the problem in the NVIDIA forums, as the situation is more related to the graphics card, and I've consulted and posted on the NVIDIA forums and even called the NVIDIA aftermarket when trying to fix the problem on my own computer.

Thank you, Arthur Sheng, for a quick Response, i will try the second one Because I have already tried the first option.

Yes, i also think the GPU is on fault here, this card came out when crypto mining was booming and cards with big memory size were in demand, and this was a perfectly balanced card for everyone, and NVidia did their thing by using " 'LHR' Mining Limiter " algorithms (as per some articles) and some think this is why this card is behaving differently. some suggest updating or changing the firmware/ Bios "MAY" solve this but that is absolutely "no going back" way, and there isn't any official releases or statements by Nvidia on this. some suggested that its windows issue because on Linux there is options available for "dithering" but not on windows. And those people are also using the same card. Even if some cards turn out to be correct in the lot, there is no guarantee of that because most of the problems are with these cards only.

So, I think I'm going to post this issue on their platform as well. Hope to get some solution.
