Mouse problems are a frequent recurrence with Windows updates. When it happens, I can't mark text consistently, the mouse 'misfires', i.e., fires a second time immediately after I click and sometimes without even a first click -- sometimes at a position that is semi-disastrous. If I highlight a web address, it 'fires' and sends me to that address whether I want to go there or not. It loses focus quickly. Putting these all together, it can be absolutely maddening if I'm trying to get something done in a hurry.
I have experienced these for years, now. Sometimes the next update makes it go away, sometimes not. It feels like there is some code and/or mismatch that is sneaking back into the production stream.
FWIW, I have always attributed this to interaction with some software that is installed on my computer, maybe VirtualBox (not to cast aspersions, but VirtualBox also interacts with the mouse and so is suspect). I've not been able to prove it yet. I just wanted to share this here for anyone who may be thinking similarly.
