Hi

I just made the asked the messenger update, and now all external links opens up in EDGE instead of my default browser. And I see no option to set it back.

A workaround for this is to 'Install Facebook' through the Chrome browser. In Chrome, navigate to https://www.facebook.com/messages/ and in the URL bar on the right-hand side there will be an icon of a screen with a downward facing arrow. Hover over that icon and it should say 'Install Facebook'.

This will install Messenger as a Google Chrome app and allow you to open links in Chrome instead of being forced to use Edge given the recent changes.

This probably won't work for everyone as it only allows to change from another browser that is avaible via the Microsoft app store -> that excludes Chrome. Anotther lousy move from Microsoft.

The reason it opens links in Edge is because the new app is just a webview running in Edge. So it's like you're running Edge browser, clicking a link in Edge, it will always open link in itself... There is no fix for that.
I don't know why Meta did that change...

This is monopolistic market manipulation. Microsoft should probably rethink this.

Yet another reason I cannot stand Microsoft (even though I love their products). Also. according to Meta, we have to use the windows app store version past October 20, 2024 to continue using messenger (if we use windows). They made the app worse and microsoft screwed it up even more with the links opening in ms edge ****. (I also cannot stand meta).

What a bunch of **** this is!
