How to show time with seconds when clicking on the clock in the system tray?

In Windows 10, when I clicked on the date/time in the system tray, I would get an enlarged view of the clock which displayed the seconds.

This ability appears to be removed in Windows 11.

I see there is an option to now display the seconds on the taskbar.

I am seeking to see if there is a way to have the seconds shown only when I click on the time, to see the enlarged view, rather than have the seconds showing all the time.

Essentially seeking to be able to view the clock similar to how it was shown in Windows 10 when clicked on.

Thanks for any comments.

The "Show seconds in system tray clock" option does not show for me. I have Windows 11 Pro, version 23H2, OS build 22631.4317. Do you know why this could be happening?

In Windows 11 24H2 and later versions, the “Show seconds in system tray clock” option has been moved to Settings -> Time and Language -> Date and Time -> Show time and date in the System tray dropdown.

You can direct access the page by right-clicking on the system tray clock and selecting “Adjust date and time” option from the context menu.

My workaround is to create a shortcut with "timedate.cpl".

(not sure why I can't pin a shortcut to task bar).

My name is Jonathan Deives. I'm an Independent Advisor and I will be happy to help you today.

Follow these steps to disable seconds:

Settings (Windows key + i) > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors, and check the “Show seconds in system tray clock” option.

Unfortunately it is not possible to show the time/date like in Windows 10.
