Amazon App Store REMOVED!?!?!

Anonymous

I have had the Amazon App store installed in Windows 11 Pro (23H2 22631.4317 currently) for some time as I use this about every day. According to the instructions here, this is still supported until March 5, 2025.

Microsoft removed the Amazon Appstore from Windows 11 23H2 today from my computer. Why??? What provided them the right to UNINSTALL the Amazon Appstore that has been installed in my computer for a long time now.

When I try to install the Amazon Appstore again, the app is no longer available in the Microsoft Store:

The Windows Subsystem for Android and Android Apps remains installed, but unable to re-install the Amazon Appstore.

This occurred right after Microsoft Edge to Version 130.0.2849.46 (probably coincidence) and whatever updated that got installed. Windows Update history shows no update installed; however, Windows 11 update progress indicator reveals something got updated and installed.

For anyone that is wanting or needing to run Android apps in Windows 11, as Microsoft has yet failed again on another "Feature" for everyone to use, I would suggest trying out Bluestacks in Windows 11. With all the alternatives options lately for Windows 11, I am seeing the need for Windows much less.

Does anyone know why Microsoft is removing software on computers without notification or authorization?

According to Microsoft Support, after Windows 11 OS Build 22631.4249 and later (24H2 has this feature), there is a new "Feature" implemented that automatically removes any MSIX and Microsoft Store Apps (not sure of the difference there) if Microsoft removes the App from the store. This includes any user level data stored within the App directories (which we have no control over).

Since I do not use a Microsoft Account in Windows 11 and no account with the Store, Microsoft Support said that the software is tied to the AppInstaller/MSIX in Windows 11.

However, I cannot find anything on Microsoft's web site or other support forums, news, etc. that states this new "Feature" blatantly removes software from my (or your) computer. Why is Microsoft now removing software if they want to remove software? This is unbelievable of the control they have over our computers now.

Thank you for your feedback. I checked your issue and it has indeed been removed. I apologize for the inconvenience. I'm not a developer and I've taken your issue back.

But WHY did Microsoft remove it from the computer? That should be MY CHOICE and not Microsoft's???

Microsoft attaches great importance to user experience, you can submit your ideas and suggestions through the Feedback Hub, and the development team will regularly review submissions for ideas or fixes.

Blah Blah Blah... Microsoft does not really use nor cares from end-user Feedback.

I look forward to your feedback.

Thank you so much. I was just trying to get the windows subsystem for android today only to learn they already ended support for it. Of course they did. I've used Bluestacks for games in the past so I know it's reliable at least.

(Also I am fully migrating away from Microsoft this year myself. Pretty fed up with them and their "features")
