Though the precise wording of these extortion/sextortion scam emails changes all the time, the basic flow is always the same, which is why everyone here will tell you what Dave already did, they're all simply scams, though they may be related to other true account compromise attempts and include some of the data that was collected by infostealer malware like a desktop screenshot or even password(s) for your online accounts they often get from your browser or another password manager used in your system.

Here's a relatively generic discussion of these from the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) website, that based on its date in 2020 should tell you these have been around quite a while, in fact over a decade from what I recall.

    Thank you for that information.

That is the scam I was referring to, it is widely reported, you have nothing to worry about, they do not have access to your PC or your data.

Do not reply to that scammer and you can safely delete that Email.

17.10.2024 17:02:34 - As of today, consider the sanctity of your device's

operating system violated, as I have obtained complete access to your account.

Be assured that your virtual footsteps have been closely followed by me for more

    than just a fleeting moment.

Your system has been hacked with a virus, giving me access to your devices'

controllers like the display and camera. I have synchronized your information,

including browsing history and photos, to my servers.

I've amassed enough insights about you through a lengthy timeframe.

While keeping an eye on you, I discovered something noteworthy.

Considering what's been brought to light, the subsequent actions are, I

    believe, understood.

If you would prefer that I not do it, transfer 1000 $ (Dollar US in my

As soon as the funds are received, I’ll notice it immediately and remove all

the unwanted material. After that, we’ll part ways. I also commit to

deactivating and removing all malware from your devices. You can trust me, I

Following this timeframe, if I do not receive the agreed-upon amount from you,

I will release access to your accounts and visited websites, personal

information, and edited materials to the public without prior notice.

Remember this: I do not make mistakes, and I strongly discourage any attempts

at humor with me. My resources are ample. Complaining about me is fruitless

because they won't be able to trace me. Formatting the drive or destroying the

Responding to this message is a futile action since I didn't utilize a personal

Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Did you receive an Email indicating a hacker has access to your PC and all your data and email account and are they telling you to pay in Bitcoin?

If that is what happened, that is a well known scam, do not pay them and ignore the Email, they do not have access to your PC or data.

If that is not what you are seeing, please provide a screenshot or the text of the Email you have received.
