So, Windows Longhorn. Why was it scrapped?

From the things I have seen, Windows Longhorn was absolutely beautiful. That aero look, without removing that XP mid 2000s feel. Yet looking so modern and simple. But why did Microsoft scrap it? Why not retry it today? Many people still find the older versions of windows to be appealing, such as myself. I wonder that if Microsoft completely scrapped the whole thing was because of hardware limitations, because I do know that Windows Vista was a good looking OS, but unfortunately it was extremely slow on the computers at the time. Is there anyone who has worked at Microsoft for a long time that could answer this?

It was simply a code-name during the development of Vista.

And Microsoft never comes or replies to these Vista Questions, as support has long ended.
