Third Display Screen

I have several W10 units and have just now bought two additional W11 units. I have heard that we should NOT go to W11. Due to the changes from W10 to W11, I am hearing a strong push from my techie colleagues that I should abandon MS in favor of Apple, and I am starting to see why. Windows 10 allowed me to add 2 additional display screens by adding an additional HDMI at the USB-C port. I could extend the display which gave me three side by side screens worth of real estate to work with. W11 seems to have done away with that so that I can only run one additional screen. Is that correct? If so, why would MS have done that? I develop training classes and the 3rd screen was needed. Right now, W11 looks pretty useless for my work, unless someone can tell me how to add the third screen. I have been able to set up the second screen in extend mode. But the third screen at the USB-C port is not being recognized like my W10 readily does.

    Dear DarrenBeanard,

Hello! Welcome to the Microsoft Community. I'm glad to be able to assist you. If I misunderstand your question, please let me know promptly.

I understand that you are having trouble using three displays. I understand the frustration this has caused you and I will do my best to help you resolve it.

Windows 11 still allows for multiple external screens in terms of multi-monitor support, but some system and device configurations may result in poor connectivity or limited number of displays. Here are some suggestions to help resolve the issue of not being able to add a third display:

    1. Confirm hardware compatibility: Windows 11 itself does not limit multi-monitor support, but some laptop or desktop motherboards and graphics cards may limit the number of displays that can be used simultaneously. Please confirm that the graphics card of the new device supports connecting 3 or more displays. Some devices with integrated graphics may only support 2 displays.
    2. USB-C docking station or adapter: Make sure the USB-C to HDMI adapter or docking station you are using supports multiple display outputs. Some low-end adapters only support one additional screen, so it is recommended to choose a docking station that supports MST (Multi-Stream Transport).

Or you can test it by connecting one screen to each car and checking whether they perform properly. Then connect them both at the same time and see if they perform properly.

    1. Display settings: In Settings > System > Display, click the "Multiple displays" option and make sure all connected displays are detected and set to "Extended" mode. If the display is not recognized, you can try clicking the "Detect" button. 4. Update drivers: Make sure the display driver and graphics card driver are up to date. Go to the driver download website provided by your notebook manufacturer (BIOS manufacturer for desktop computers), find the driver corresponding to your computer model and download and install it. If possible, we recommend that you use DDU uninstall tool to completely uninstall the old driver first, and then install the latest driver.
    2. BIOS or System Setup: Some devices allow you to change the limit on the number of display outputs in the BIOS or System Setup. Check if there is an option for this.

It sounds like you are using a laptop. If you have tried the above and still cannot connect a third monitor, try contacting the laptop manufacturer to see if there is a limit. If you are using a built-in computer, you can try using a different cable, such as a DisplayPort cable to try connecting.

I hope the above information is helpful, if you have any questions, please feel free to let me know.

    Best Wishes
