If the phone is "NOT" showing up, how in the hell are you suppose to find it in Device Manager, right click it and install the driver?! I swear some of you people at Microsoft act like you really are idiots.
Mobile device not showing up on Windows 10 when connected through USB
I am using Windows 10 Home on my laptop. I am trying to connect my Android mobile to the laptop through USB. I can hear the sound, enable file transfer on mobile device, getting a pop-up that the device is ready to use. But the device is not showing up on Windows explorer.
To troubleshoot I tried to update the driver by clicking on my device name under Other Devices but it failed again with following error -
"Windows found drivers for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install them.
MTP USB Device
The system cannot find the file specified"
Tried with other basic troubleshooting steps already like restart both my laptop and mobile, checked with other USB cables. Even other external devices are working fine but the mobile device is not showing up even after enabling file transfer option.

2024-02-19T06:02:29+00:00 Hi
Welcome to Microsoft community.
I understand you're having trouble connecting your Android device to your Windows 10 laptop. The error you're seeing typically indicates an issue with the MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) drivers. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue:
- Reinstall the MTP USB Device Driver:
- Connect your Android device to your computer.
- Open Device Manager (You can search for it in the Start menu).
- Find your device under 'Portable Devices' or 'Other Devices'.
- Right-click your device and select 'Uninstall device'.
- After the device is uninstalled, disconnect it from your computer.
- Restart your computer.
- Reconnect your Android device. Windows should automatically reinstall the correct drivers.
- Manually Install the MTP USB Device Driver:
- Connect your Android device to your computer.
- Open Device Manager.
- Find your device under 'Portable Devices' or 'Other Devices'.
- Right-click your device and select 'Update driver'.
- Choose 'Browse my computer for driver software'.
- Choose 'Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer'.
- Select 'MTP USB Device' and click 'Next'. The driver should install.
- Install the Latest Android USB Drivers:
- Some Android devices require specific USB drivers. You can usually find these on the manufacturer's website. Download and install the appropriate drivers for your device.
- Try a Different USB Port:
- Sometimes, the issue might be with the USB port on your computer. Try connecting your Android device to a different USB port and see if this resolves the issue.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
