I have just got a new pc with windows 11. In the old photos gallery in w10 you could add tags and other details but I can't find how to do it in the new version. Is the option still there?

New to Windows11. In the photo gallery in w10 (details section) there was a box where you could enter details about the photo. Can't find out how to do this in w11 gallery. Any help appreciated.

There are certain features that might still be available and there are that is not available anymore as Windows itself does not have a native tool to annotate bulk images but rather you can check the below.

> Use of File Explorer - Adding Tags and Metadata

  • You can bulk edit the metadata of photos (such as tags, titles, and descriptions) in File Explorer.
  • Go to your Photos in File Explorer
  • Select Multiple Photos and from there, Press Ctrl and click to select multiple photos, or press Ctrl + A to select all the photos in the folder
  • Right-click one of the selected photos and click Properties
  • Click the Details tab and from there add the Tags, Title, or Comments field, add your annotations and then click Apply then OK

*Do take note that this method only lets you annotate with metadata like tags, comments, or titles, and the changes will apply to all selected files.

> Use of 3rd Party Tools for Bulk Annotation

  • You may refer to the below and see if any of this will suit your need/s
  • XnView MP

Hi Paul, thanks for that. So far so good and I have been able to add details to individual photos in Legacy. In the old windows photos there was an option to add details in bulk which saves time. For instance I took 150 photos yesterday and loaded them onto the pc and am adding the same note to each of them. Doing that one at a time takes a long time. In the windows 10 gallery I would just highlight them all and the details box would show up and I'd input for all in the time it takes to annotate one photo. Can't find that option in the legacy version in W11. Any ideas?

Thanks. That helped with my jpg files in the meta data like you said. Doesn't do it for RAW files. I shall have to wait for Microsoft to improve the images gallery to enable me to do bulk descriptions.

Good day Jamie, thanks for your question. I am glad to be able to provide assistance to you today. You can check and try to open up the legacy photos app as this option is not yet available in the new one and from the new photos app you can go to Settings > Photos Legacy > Open Photos Legacy and take it from there.
