Thinkpad Universal USB-C Dock not recognizing 2nd Monitor only when 2 monitors are plugged in (Windows 10) (SOLVED)

As title says, I have a Thinkpad Universal USB-C Dock that has displayed both monitors just fine for the past 2 years. I've recently went on a trip taking my laptop and after returning and plugging in the USB C connection, the dock only recognizes a single monitor.

I currently have a monitor connected via Display port and a monitor connected via HDMI port. And only the HDMI port connected monitor is displaying when both monitors are plugged into the dock. If I remove one of cables from the docking station, either monitor will display....meaning if I have the Display port connected only, that monitor wil display and if I have the HDMI monitor connected only, that monitor will display. But both will not display at the same time and only the HDMI connected monitor will display when both are connected.

I have not changed power cables. I have no changed anything about how the monitors connect to the dock. I also disconnect my laptop from the dock at least a few times a month and have never (until this past time) had an issue getting the 2nd monitor to show up after disconnecting the usb-c cable and reconnecting.

I have tried the following:

  1. Disconnected all cables from the dock and held the dock power button down for 60+ seconds, replugged in cables with USB-C connected last. Same result as described above.
  2. Repeated #1 above but before replugging in, made sure to uninstall the Dispaly adapater AMD Raedon (TM) Graphics device and scan for hardware changes. Aslo made sure the Monitors device did not display any Generic PnP Monitor devices.
  3. Tried plugging in the Monitors to other ports on the dock. I only have the single HDMI port, but there are multiple Display port connections.

Of course, as soon as I submit this I find a solution after working at this for hours.

Changing the display settings to duplicate display onto Monitors 2 and 3 somehow managed to find the 3rd monitor. Then going back to Extend displays across 2 and 3 ended up working.

Thank you for the solution! I just ran into this today. Never had a problem, then all of a sudden (after plugging my laptop in), neither of my monitors was active! I had a similar setup: one HDMI, one Display Adapter. Tried all manner of cable switching and power cycling to no avail. Doing the "duplicate and extend" on each monitor, one at a time, got me back to working, finally!
