Am I advised to "sign in" when I use the Edge browser?

Is it necessary to sign in to Edge in order to have my e-mails (Outlook-New) synced between my computers, the e-mail server, and my Android phone? That's all I want. I don't care to have any other devices linked. I am ok with different Favorites in Edge and different documents on my laptop and desktop computers. And I don't put any documents or photos in the Cloud. Bottom line, is there a meaningful advantage to signing in when I access Edge? (Or a disadvantage if I don't sign in?)

    Hi,

I'm Sumit, here to answer your query at the Microsoft Community.

Apologies for any inconvenience you are experiencing. We are happy to help you.

    >>is there a meaningful advantage to signing in when I access Edge?

Sign-in helps you to sync your browser data to the server. In case Windows stops working for some reason, syncing will ensure your favorites, History, etc is preserved and can be restored from the cloud. You can disable sync for other computers you have, that is an option. If you want to get rid of the message to sign in let us know.

I look forward to your response and am eager to collaborate until we find a solution.

Hello Sumit and thank you for your consideration of my issue. Let me try to explain it again. I use two Windows 11 computers, a desktop and a laptop. They are separate in every way. Separate documents, pictures, videos, applications, and Edge "favorites." And I don't save anything to the cloud. However, I do send, receive, and delete e-mails from both as well as from my Android phone. This works for me. If I delete an e-mail on one computer--or the phone--the next time I log on to the phone or the other computer, that deleted e-mail is also deleted. So, if I am understanding correctly, if I wanted to "sync" favorites and documents across both computers, I should sign in to Edge on both of them. But since I don't want to do that, I should continue to ignore the Edge reminders to sign in. So far there is no issue with the phone. It seems to "sync" automatically. I might add here that my wife uses only one computer (and a smart phone) and she is always signed in when she accesses the browser. Apparently, it does no harm--or good--so she should just leave it alone. Does that make sense? Again, thank you for your input. Regards, Grandpa
