Windows 10 LTSB 21H2. Unable to install any cumulative update since KB5040427 because of error 0x800f0922

Hi all

I'd appreciate some assistance. I am trying to update a HP thin client image which is updated with DISM and while this is often problematic, normally persistence pays off (and often installing the patches in a certain order!)

Anyhow the last patch I was able to install on this device was KB5040427 which installed without error.

Since then there have been 3 cumulative update and all fail. Windows setup in event viewer reports 0x800f0922

I honestly don't know how to navigate the vast CBS log to efficiently see the issue, can someone assist me please?

I see no reference to C:\Temp.

TEMP and TMP are set to Z:\Temp, as per the log.

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment

Not sure what's changing it to Z:. You can try a clean boot to test.

Hi NHS, I'm Ramesh, here to answer your query at the Microsoft Community.

Please open admin Command Prompt and run:

    icacls "%temp%"

    icacls c:\windows\temp

    icacls C:\Windows\System32\wbem

    icacls C:\Windows\System32\wbem\AutoRecover

    Post the output here.
