Unable to customize reports in Microsoft Money 2002

I have been using Microsoft Money since 1999. Everything works fine except I am unable to customize reports. Whenever I open a report, when clicking on "Customize" on the left hand side, Money becomes unresponsive. When I click the mouse anywhere in the area, I hear a "BEEP" sound and nothing can be done (I cannot click on anything else - like go to "Account List" or another area on Money). If I click the "ESC" key, I can resume working with Money (still unable to customize reports). I suspect the "Customize" window opens, however, opens in the background instead of the foreground (but I could be wrong). I am using Microsoft Money 2002. This happened about one yar ago (I thought it was a Microsoft update that generated this issue, but it appears to be still there). Dropdowns and other functions work in Money.

    Dear Adrian Oanta,

Thank you for reaching out regarding the issue you’re experiencing with Microsoft Money 2002, specifically the inability to customize reports. I understand how frustrating this situation can be, especially since you’ve been a dedicated user of Microsoft Money for many years.

    About Microsoft Money 2002

Please note that Microsoft Money 2002 is an older application, released over two decades ago, and its official support has long been discontinued. As a result, it may not be fully compatible with the latest Windows operating systems or updates. Unfortunately, this means that no updates, patches, or fixes will be made to address issues like the one you’re encountering.

However, I can provide some steps that may help you improve compatibility and functionality.

    1. Run in Compatibility Mode

Older software often functions better when run in compatibility mode. Here’s how to adjust this setting:

    • Locate the Microsoft Money 2002 executable file (usually named ) or its shortcut.msmoney.exe
    • Right-click the file and select Properties.
    • Navigate to the Compatibility tab.
    • Check Run this program in compatibility mode.
    • Select Windows Vista (Service Pack 2) or Windows 7 from the drop-down menu.
    • Click Apply, then click OK.

    2. Adjust Display Settings

    • Locate the Microsoft Money 2002 executable file or shortcut.
    • Right-click the file and select Properties.
    • Under the Compatibility tab, click Change High DPI Settings.
    • Check Override high DPI scaling behavior. Scaling performed by: Application.
    • Click OK, then click Apply, and click OK again.

    3. Use a Virtual Machine (Advanced)

For advanced users, running Microsoft Money 2002 in a virtual machine with an older version of Windows (e.g., Windows XP) may resolve compatibility issues entirely. You can use software such as VirtualBox or VMware to create a virtual environment for this purpose. Note that this requires access to an older Windows installation disk or files.

If none of the above workarounds resolve the issue, you may want to explore modern financial software that is actively supported and updated. Many modern applications offer enhanced functionality and the ability to import data from Microsoft Money, ensuring a smoother and more reliable experience.

    Best Regards,
