Turn off monitor but keep programs running

Hi,

I recently bought a new HP laptop with came with Windows11. What I need is to turn off the monitor while a movie is playing, so I only listen to the sound.

I do that with a hotkey on my old HP laptop with Windows 10 using Monitor Off or TurnOffMonitor software with no trouble at all, but I've found that on Windows 11 when I turn the monitor off, the movie stops.

Is there any way to prevent this?

Thank you in advance.

Thank you for your answer Zev, but it didn't work.

First of all, my computer doesn't have the sleep/hibernate option on power plan settings, so I couldn't do that.

I cheked Dekisoft webpage and Monitor Off is for Windows 10/11, in fact it works.

I let a suggestion on Feedback Hub as you told me.

So, finally, I am returning to windows 10.

    Hi DavidVaquer,

Thanks for your post in Microsoft Community.

In your description, your newer laptop won't play a movie consistently with the screen off.

I note that you used to be able to play movies normally with the screen closed in Windows 10 on your old computer.

We determined that it is likely that the software Monitor Off or TurnOffMonitor that you used to use is no longer available in Windows 11, or there is some conflict.

In our test machine, we tried to look for related software in the Microsoft Store, but couldn't find any. These appear to be a third-party software?

If the system accidentally goes to “sleep or hibernate” after closing the screen, this may cause this problem, we can check in this area

1 Search for “Edit power plan” in the taskbar, click to open it.

2 Click Change advanced power settings

3 Find Sleep, click to expand, turn off the sleep or hibernation function of the current system.

4 Find Display, click to expand and turn off display after.

The above steps will eliminate this aspect of the power plan.

If the problem still persists, then it is likely that Monitor Off or TurnOffMonitor is unable to do the same in Windows 10 due to a change in the system.

You can try using other software of this type, or other video players, to see if there is a suitable screen closing software or video player that can fulfill your needs.

And we are very focused on your needs, as Windows is not currently designed for this feature, Microsoft attaches great importance to user experience, you can submit your ideas and suggestions through the Feedback Hub, and the development team will regularly review submissions for ideas or fixes.

Please share the feedback link here after submitting as it will allow others on the forum to vote for your submission, including me. More votes will lead to more visibility and higher priority to the development team.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

    Best regards,

Sorry the first reply didn't solve your problem, you clicked no help.

You can just go to the control panel, power options, and change when closing the lid to take no action.

I hope the above information is helpful to you!
