How do I fix this network connection issue?

Upon turning on my HP envy laptop, I wasn't given the option to connect to the internet at all. The button had completely disappeared and I couldn't do anything. I've restarted my pc about 5 times and nothing has fixed it.

It's very unlikely to be related but I happened to spill some water on it earlier, so it could somehow maybe be related to water damage.

On the 'Get Help' screen that has the 'Lets gelp you get connected' thingy, it says that I'm connected using a virtual network adapter that it can't test. I've had this computer since 2022 and this has never happened before.

    Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community and I'll be glad to assist you today.

I understand that you are having trouble connecting your HP PC to a Wi-Fi network suddenly.

Have you checked if the network drivers are still available or missing in Device Manager?

I recommend trying a few troubleshooting steps listed below to see if they resolve the issue:

    • Method 1.
    Run the Network Troubleshooter.

    1. Go to Start > Settings > System > Troubleshooter > Other troubleshooter > Network & Internet > Select Run.
    2. Once the troubleshooter has diagnosed the issue, restart your computer.

    • Method 2.
    Re-install Network Adapters.

    1. Open the Device Manager.
    2. Expand the arrow next to Network adapters.
    3. Right-click your default Network driver (usually Intel (R) Wi-Fi or Realtek), select Uninstall device, select the Attempt to remove the driver for this device check box, and then select Uninstall.

    1. Once uninstalled, restart your PC.

(Windows will automatically re-install the Wi-Fi drivers for your PC). See if the Wi-Fi icon is enabled again on the taskbar. If it is still missing,

Type msinfo in the search bar on the taskbar and click enter. Post a screenshot of the resulting dialog box in your next reply.
Also, see the "Troubleshooting network problems in Windows" article for reference.

I hope this information helps. If you have any questions, please let me know and I will be happy to help you further.

    Best regards,
