How to save images and PDFs on desktop screen

Howdy y'all.

I just got a new Surface laptop. It's great but I've hit a snag that I don't know how to resolve. I've used Windows 11 since it was rolled out so I know it's possible but for whatever reason, with this new PC, when I right click to save a photo or a document and save it to desktop; instead of it being visible as a thumbnail on my actual desktop screen, it's saved in File Explorer under "Recent". It's annoying because the reason I generally save some things on my desktop is so it's that I don't forget to go back and take care of/read/whatever the file when I have time. I think it might have something to do with these files and sometimes images go directly to OneDrive instead of being stored on the laptop, but I'm uncertain that's the case.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Right click your Desktop and select View, is the 'Show Desktop Icons' setting enabled?
