Wanting to disable touchpad on a Dell laptop

Hello, I am trying to disable or uninstall the touch pad on my dell laptop. I have a USB mouse and the touchpad constantly moving the cursor around while typing is very distracting and troublesome at times.

My system information is as follows:

Hardware Dell Studio 1745
OS:
Edition Windows 10 Pro
Version 22H2
Installed on ‎30/‎08/‎24
OS build 19045.5011

I have been trying to uninstall the touchpad software but I don’t have the disable touchpad option on the settings>devices>touchpad. The only thing I have is a drop down menu labeled as Touchpad Sensitivity

If I use control panel to go to the mouse settings I get a window called mouse properties but there is no option anywhere to disable the touchpad when a USB device is detected.

In the device manager there are two mouse items displayed. The USB mouse is called HID-complant mouse. The touchpad is listed as PS/2 Comparable Mouse.

I have tried to uninstall the drivers for the PS/2 Comparable Mouse, but when I reboot the system to complete the driver removal, they are still there after rebooting.

According to the answer on the Dell support website, installing the Dell touchpad driver or the Dell Quick Set application will allow you to disable the touchpad on your device.

When you select to uninstall the device, does it stop working?

    Hi Rodrigo.

No. When I run the uninstall option, the system puts up a message stating a restart is required to finish the uninstall. After the restart the drivers are still present and the touch pad is still working.

    Hello Rodrigo,

I'm sorry I neglected to state that the Roll Back and Disable buttons are greyed out.

    See picture below.

    Any Ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks and have a great day,

    Hi,

I'm Rodrigo and I'll help you.

Instead of removing/uninstalling the device on Device Manager, disable it.

This will keep the device disabled after rebooting
