dism failed to find source to repair component store

I am running Windows Home 23H2. KB5044380 failed to install in Windows Update.

Running DISM, /checkhealth and /scanhealth both said the Component Store is repairable. When trying /restorehealth it said it couldn't find the source files. I downloaded the only available ISO from the Windows download page: "Windows 11 (multi-edition ISO for X64 devices)". This is 24H2.

After trying both mounting the ISO is situ and subsequently burning to an 8.5GB DVD, when neither worked (saying it could not find the source files), I finally tried copying the install.wim file to to a folder "Wim" on my C drive. This is the command I finally ran:

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth /source:C:\wim\install.wim:1 /limitaccess

And again I got the "The source files could not be found" message. I don't know what I am doing wrong, or what I can do to fix this problem.

(I have previously run sfc /scannow which repaired my system files.)

Hi, I’m Vinay. Thanks for reaching out.

I’m here to help you today.

When the Windows version of the ISO is different from the one you currently have installed, it is normal for DISM to fail to locate the source files needed to restore the component store.

So, Once try doing In-Place upgrade repair which can fix system issues without losing your data .

You can do this by following the instructions in the given link

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

    Regards,

    Vinay

Thank you for your reply. Following that link I see the following paragraph:

Requirements: Windows 11 ISO file which you can download free of cost from Microsoft's official website here. The Windows 11 ISO file should have same language as your current Windows 11 installation. The Windows 11 ISO file you will be using must be the same edition (e.g. Pro for Pro), same version (e.g. Version 21H2 for Version 21H2), and same or higher build as the currently installed Windows 11. You need to login to the administrator account on your system to perform the repair upgrade. Make sure your system is fully charged or you can let your system connected to a power source during the upgrade process.

Note that it says it must be the same version. How can I do this for 23H2 when the only version available to download is 24H2, and contains more than one edition?

Edit: OK, I tried the Media Creation Tool and it downloaded an image. When I tried to burn the image to DVD I got error code 0X8007045D and setup.exe won't run.

Edit #2; Never mind, I mounted the downloaded ISO in situ and am now able to run setup.exe from there.
