    Hello Gillian,

Thank you for your update. The tracert result looks normal. Given that you mentioned your issue temporarily fixed itself shortly after you reset the network, but came back later, we suspect that this problem is caused by some software conflicts. Do you have any security software, such as Kaspersky or Avast? If so, press Windows + X and click Device Manager. In Device Manager, look for any VPN devices. If there is one, please give us some screenshots and we will consider the next step.

If nothing found, perform a clean boot to see if a background program is causing the issue. This will start Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. How to perform a clean boot in Windows - Microsoft Support

    1. Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
    2. Go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and then click Disable all.
    3. Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.
    4. Disable all startup items.
    5. Restart your computer.
Disclaimer: A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It helps to determine whether a background service is interfering with your game or program and to isolate the cause of a problem.
These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by step so that it will help you get back on track.

The final option can be re-installing Windows, but before that we would like to know if the above steps can help. Considering you mentioned that this problem came after a Windows Update, you can go to "Settings" - Windows Update - Update History to check the recent updates. If possible, uninstall the recent ones and reboot your device. Check if this can fix the problem.

    Hi William,

So i dont have any devices that suggect anything to do with vpns in my device manager.

I use Webroot Secure Anywhere for my antivirus.

So i followed the rest of your instructions and disabled the services and disabled all the start ups. Rebooted and reinstroduced the start ups one by one with a re-boot inbetween checking wether facebook and instagram started up ok and in a timely fashion. Yes they did so I guess its not the startup but a services conflict.

So I found out how to debug the services and found it was the Gigabyte CFosService that came with my motherboard drivers and software. I removed the application, i can live without it. Did a bit of research and its seems to be notorious for giving DNS issues and has done for years and I guess thats what I had.

Thank you Will for your constructive help in guiding me to sort this out! I absolutley love Windows11 and Edge and it was really ruining it for me.

    Kind regards

    Gill

Yup. I was having the same issue and it was driving me crazy. I remove the Gigabyte app and everything loaded. Thanks for the detective work. Bad Gigabyte.

    Hello Gillian Rogers,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

Looks like you cannot connect to only these three websites. Could you give us some information about your network environment? Can you view these three websites with other devices in the same network environment?

First of all, please reset your network in Settings app. Right click on the network icon on Tray. Click "Network and Internet settings" - "Advanced Network Settings" - "Network Reset". Your device will reboot in some minutes, wait and check if your issue persists.

Search "CMD" on taskbar, find and open the command prompt (right click to select run as administrator)
In the command box that pops up, enter the following commands in order (after each line has finished running, enter the next one)

    ipconfig /release

    ipconfig /renew

    ipconfig /flushdns

    ipconfig /registerdns

    netsh int ip reset

    netsh winsock reset

    netsh winhttp reset proxy

Restart the computer to see if the problem can be solved.

    Reset network settings
Tap Windows Key+R, type inetcpl.cpl, open Internet Options, click Advanced, and check "Use SSL 3.0" and "Use TLS 1.0", "Use TLS 1.1", "Use TLS 1.2", reboot the computer after the application to see if the problem can be solved.

    Reset Proxy Server Settings
Also in Internet Options, go to Connections -- LAN Settings, and check whether the Proxy Server column is checked, if so, uncheck it and click OK, restart your computer after applying it to see if the problem can be solved.

    Change DNS
Tap Windows Key+R and type ncpa.cpl
Click on the name of the network you are now connected to, open the Network Status window, click Properties, and then double-click Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) in the Network Properties window.
Manually set the DNS servers to "4.2.2.1" and "4.2.2.2" and restart the computer to see if the problem is solved.

If still persists, open Command Prompt and type:

    tracert www.facebook.com
This command will trace the path to the host named www.facebook.com. You can share the result with us.

    Best Regards,
