Hi, I am an Independent Advisor.
Let me help you with this issue.
I understand you are only getting a black screen when you power on your laptop.
Do you still see the manufacturer's logo when you power it on?
Please follow these steps. First, check for external display issues. If you're using an external monitor, ensure it is properly connected and powered on. You can press Windows + P to cycle through display modes (Duplicate, Extend, or PC Screen Only) to check if the screen appears. Next, perform a forced restart by holding the Power button for 10–15 seconds to turn off the laptop, then power it back on. Adjust the screen brightness using the appropriate Function key (e.g., F5 or F6) to ensure the brightness is not at its lowest setting. Shine a flashlight on the screen to check if faint visuals appear, which might indicate a backlight issue.
You can also try resetting the display driver by pressing Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B, which may restore the screen. Disconnect all peripherals, such as USB devices and external monitors, to rule out any external hardware conflicts. If your laptop has a removable battery, remove it, hold the Power button for 30 seconds, reconnect the battery, and power the laptop back on. Testing with an external monitor can also help determine if the issue is with your laptop's screen or GPU.
If the screen remains black, attempt to boot into Safe Mode. Turn off the laptop and press the F8 or Shift + F8 key repeatedly as it boots. In Safe Mode, check for any display driver issues in Device Manager and update or reinstall the graphics driver if needed. For a more advanced reset, you can try a hard reset by turning off the laptop, disconnecting the power cable and any connected devices, and holding the Power button for 30 seconds. Reconnect the power cable and turn it back on.
If none of these steps work, boot into the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). Turn the laptop off, then on, and hold the Power button to force shutdown three times. On the fourth attempt, it should boot into WinRE, where you can choose Troubleshoot > Advanced Options to try Startup Repair, System Restore, or reset the PC. If the problem persists, the issue may be hardware-related, such as a failing screen or GPU, and may require professional repair.
