2025-04-28T19:30:06+00:00 You don't have a current Bitlocker key. If you have a smart phone or another computer, ask you manufacturer's tech supp how to get an updated key.

2025-04-28T18:57:56+00:00 I've followed these instructions exactly but the same sequence of screens keeps coming up and the Bitlocker blue screen always comes up, requesting me to enter the recovery key. this is so repetitive that it seems to be in some kind of locked loop that needs a forcible restart, but the options are so limited on the command prompt that everything that has been suggested on this forum produces the same end result. Anything more I can do?

Could you provide more details? I don't quite understand what you mean by "How to get into the BitLocker recovery screen. "
If you are trying to disable BitLocker, turn your computer off then turn it on before you see the spinning dots/circles and then turn it off again. Repeat this process two to three times. You should see a screen that says "Windows couldn't start properly". Push "See advanced options", then "Troubleshoot", then "Advanced Options", then "Command Prompt". You will need your BitLocker recovery key for this; you can find it at https://aka.ms/recoverykey and once you locate it in your Microsoft account, enter the 48 digit recovery key and then press Enter or Unlock. At the Command Prompt, type in manage-bde -unlock -rp recoverykey C: and push the enter key (where recoverykey is the 48 digit recovery key that you found on your Microsoft account. Enter it exactly as shown in your Microsoft account, otherwise this will not work). Then, manage-bde -off C: which should disable BitLocker permanently. After this, you can type in wpeutil reboot which will reboot your device, and then you can reset Windows.
Hope this helps.
