Just wasn’t sure as the microphone symbol appeared and it said Cisco was accessing my microphone but I was not on a call so I wasn’t sure if private conversation outside of any call would be recorded
What does it mean when microphone symbol appears on laptop taskbar and says settings has accessed microphone
I want to know if my private conversations can be heard outside of any active call or teams call when this symbol is present on laptop

When the microphone icon on your taskbar pops up, that's just letting you know that your microphone is being used. Nothing else except the thing that needs the microphone can access your microphone.
Hope to hear back from you.

I’m here to help you today.
The microphone symbol on your taskbar indicates that an app is using your microphone. It doesn’t mean someone is remotely listening to you, but the app is actively accessing the mic.
You can check which apps have Microphone access. Go to Settings - Privacy & Security - Microphone.
I hope this resolves your issue! If you have any queries, please let me know.
Regards,
Vinay
