KB5048652 fail 0x800f0922

Edition Windows 10 Pro
Version 22H2
Installed on ‎12/‎08/‎2024
OS build 19045.2965
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.19041.1000.0

Using Windows Update this KB failed twice. Once after PC working all day and again following cold boot. Because the KB contains mandatory Security fixes I need some assistance with troubleshooting the issue.

It does not appear to be a WUpdate issue given that two other Updates completed successfully during the same initial attempt as shown in the following image.

Clicking Download button in Update Catalog listing of KB5048652 yields a pop-up with this info.

2024-12 Dynamic Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5048652)
    windows10.0-kb5048652-x64_59844d513d571636b5711a4a01037f5f64a98f63.cab (SHA1: WYRNUT1XFja1cRpKAQN/X2Spj2M=)

The MS listed SHA1 hash does not match the SHA1 hash calculated using CertUtil. Not even close.

    E:\Desktop>certutil -hashfile windows10.0-kb5048652-x64_59844d513d571636b5711a4a01037f5f64a98f63.cab sha1

    SHA1 hash of windows10.0-kb5048652-x64_59844d513d571636b5711a4a01037f5f64a98f63.cab:

    59844d513d571636b5711a4a01037f5f64a98f63

    CertUtil: -hashfile command completed successfully.

Also tried WUpdate again after disabling all non-MS services and rebooting but to no avail. Same issue; "Undoing Changes". Service Partition has 68MB of free space so didn't need to alter that. So, is the WUpdate file corrupt on the MS side? Why are the hashes different?

Also, WUpdate shows KB5048292 as being installed again even tho History shows it as already successfully installed (see image in OP).

    AUGH!

This could just be a bug in the recent December updates. I recommend waiting a few days then check if the issue persists.

If the issue persists, please try performing an In-place Upgrade. It will definitely help in resolving update errors. Performing this can repair broken operating system files while your personal files, settings and installed applications will not be removed.

Few things to check on the PC

**Unplug all external peripherals except for the Mouse, Keyboard, and LAN cable before starting

**Disable or uninstall any third-party antivirus program to prevent it from interfering with the upgrade

Download the media creation tool(Click Download tool now) and save it to your computer.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...

Open the tool and select Upgrade this PC now.

Make sure to select Keep personal files and apps.

It might take some time to install Windows 10. Your computer will restart a few times, make sure you don’t turn off your PC

    Kind regards,
