Need to Prevent Suspended Mode for an application (TradingView)

I run a very important application called TradingView which provides live data about the stock market and I use it to provide me visual data as well as alerts and notifications about stock price movements. I have noticed in Windows 11 task manager this application often shows a status of Suspended. I cannot afford to have this application go into suspended mode ever. It MUST run at peak performance at all times or else I can lose money if I receive data and alerts in a delayed fashion. I am not always interacting with the application but it needs access to all of the system resources that it needs at all times WITHOUT delay. How do I prevent Windows 11 from limiting the performance of this application.

    Dear Raventerp!

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community!

In Windows 11 Task Manager, the "Suspended" status is usually caused by the system automatically suspending inactive UWP (Universal Windows Platform) apps or certain processes when optimizing program operation and resource usage efficiency. Although this is to save power and system resources, for real-time updates (such as programs like TradingView that need to update stock data), this suspension will cause data updates to be delayed or functions to not work properly.

Here are some ways to help you avoid the TradingView process from being suspended and keep it active at all times:

    ________________________________________

Method 1: Adjust background apps and power settings

    1. Check background app permissions:

    i. Open Settings (Win + I).

ii. Go to Apps > Apps & features.

iii. Find the TradingView app (or browser, if running through a browser).

iv. Click the "..." button to the right of the app and select Advanced options.

    v. When you see the Background app permissions option, switch it to Always keep running in the background.

    1. Change the power mode:

Open Settings > System > Power & Battery.

In Power Mode, select Best Performance to ensure that the system does not suspend active processes due to battery optimization.

    ________________________________________

Method 2: Use the desktop version instead of the UWP app

Currently, TradingView's Windows native client apps (usually apps provided through the UWP framework) are more susceptible to system hangs. If you are using the TradingView desktop program (not through a web browser or Microsoft Store app), you can optimize it by doing the following:

    1. Download the standalone desktop client from the TradingView website:

Visit the TradingView website and download the desktop client version.

After installation, run the standalone desktop version, which is not limited to the UWP framework and is therefore less likely to be hung.

    ________________________________________

Method 3: Optimize the web browser (if running TradingView through a browser)

If you use TradingView through a browser, you can try the following adjustments to ensure that the browser window does not hang or stop updating:

    1. Disable the browser tab hibernation feature:

    Microsoft Edge:

    a. Open the Edge browser.

    b. Go to Settings > System and Performance.

    c. Find "Energy Saving Tabs" and turn off the option "Enabling Energy Saving Mode will cause idle tabs to close".

    Google Chrome:

    a. Type in the address bar: chrome://settings/performance

    b. Find and turn off the option "Freeze Inactive Tabs".

    1. Keep the window active:

Do not minimize the browser window of TradingView, as this may reduce the browser's activity priority.

You can use virtual desktops to place TradingView in another desktop separately, which can keep it active without affecting your switching to other tasks.

    ________________________________________

Method 4: Set a higher priority through Task Manager

(However, this feature has been cancelled in Microsoft's recent Windows 11 update. If you have not updated to the latest version, you should be able to use this method normally.)

You can manually adjust the running priority of the TradingView application using Task Manager to ensure that the system places it in the list of important tasks:

    1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
    2. Find the TradingView process (or the corresponding process for the browser).
    3. Right-click the process and select Set Priority > High.
    4. Make sure the setting takes effect, so that the system will prioritize the program and reduce the chance of it being hung.

    ________________________________________

Method 5: Use the system registry to completely disable application suspension

If you want to prevent the system from suspending any process, you can do so through registry settings (be careful):

    1. Press Win + R and enter regedit to open the registry editor.
    2. Navigate to the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options
    3. In this path:

Create a subkey for the executable file of TradingView (for example, TradingView.exe or its main program executable file).

In this subkey, create a new DWORD (32-bit) value named:

    DisableUserModeCallbackFilter

and change its value to 1.

Disclaimer: Generally, modifying registry subkeys or work group is intended for advanced users, administrators, and IT Professionals. It can help fix some problems, however, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For further protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click How to back up and restore the registry in Windows - Microsoft Support to view the article.

Method 6: Check for other power optimization tools

If you have branded optimization software installed on your device, such as Lenovo Vantage, ASUS Armoury Crate, etc., these software may adjust the priority of background activities and cause TradingView to be suspended.

Open the settings of these tools and check if there are options for "battery optimization" or "background optimization" and turn them off.

I hope above information can help you. If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know. Tell me the results. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you for your understanding and support!

May everything be perfect for you at the end of 2024 and all the best in the coming 2025~
