Hello,AngieAdair
Welcome to posting in the Microsoft Community.
I understand that your XP Pen tablet's cursor can only be displayed on an external monitor and cannot be switched to your laptop's built-in screen.
The XP Pen pen tablet cursor can only be displayed on the external monitor, probably because the driver default setting maps the tablet to the external monitor and does not automatically adapt to the current multi-monitor layout. In addition, Windows systems with multiple monitors connected may have the pad mapped only to the default primary monitor, causing the cursor to appear only on a specific screen. The issue may also be triggered if the driver version is old or not properly installed, which may prevent the monitor switching function from working properly.
1 - Adjusting XP Pen Settings
- Open the XP Pen driver settings screen.
- Look for the “Mapping” or “Display Settings” option.
- In the Mapping Settings, you should see a list of monitors, such as “Monitor 1 (laptop screen)” and “Monitor 2 (external screen)”.
- Select the monitor you wish to use the pad with (e.g. Monitor 1).
- After saving the settings, the cursor should appear on the monitor you selected.
2 - Adjust Windows display settings
- Right-click on the desktop and select “Display Settings”.
- In the “Monitor” settings, find the layout of the currently connected monitors (“Monitor 1” and “Monitor 2”).
- Make sure the primary monitor is the laptop screen.
- After saving the settings, go back to the XP Pen driver and check or reconfigure the mapping settings.
3 - Update XP Pen driver
- Go to the official website of XP Pen.
- On the “Support” or “Download” page of the website, select your device model (e.g. Star 6430S) and download the latest driver for it.
- Right-click on the Start icon and select Device Manager to locate and uninstall the existing XP Pen driver on your computer.
- Install the downloaded fresh driver and restart your computer. Configure the driver mapping again and make sure the cursor is displayed on the correct screen.

4 - Replacing the hardware connection
The HDMI connection is usually more stable and avoids interference that may occur when connecting a monitor and a pad at the same time through the USB-C port.
Confirm whether the external monitor supports HDMI. If the monitor supports HDMI and the user's laptop also has an HDMI port, it can be connected directly with an HDMI cable.
After you refer to the above steps, you can share some information in this thread and I will answer your questions further. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
