Delay in lock screen shortcut key (F10)

Whenever I press my F10 key which is the shortcut that locks my device (its a physcical button I press and not a self-made command and its basically just WIN + L command). There is a good 1-3 second delay when I press it and when it registers to actually lock my screen. I noticed that the first time I do it the delay will be there but the 2nd or 3rd time I press it it's instant like before. It does this if I haven't used the command in a while. I also tested this in safe mode and this issue does NOT occour. It works normal as always. I've also noticed when I open certain games like VALORANT the issue goes away until I close out the game.

This started when I updated the Windows 11 update 24H2, on 23H2 it didn't have this problem. It's getting quite annoying since I use the lock button alot.

All other shortcut buttons don't have this problem. For example F12 brings up the calculator yet there is no delay.

    Hi, pancakes010

    Thanks for your reply!

According to the current system characteristics of Windows, if you cannot return to 23H2 by rolling back, the only way is to install 23H2 from ISO.

For file backup, please note that the data backed up by Windows Backup can only be used on the same version of the system (for example, the files backed up by 24H2 can only be used on the 24H2 system, but not on the 23H2 system), so it is recommended that you use OneDrive or USB flash drive to back up your data.

If you use OneDrive for backup, you can log in to OneDrive on 23H2 to download the backup to your local computer.

If you use USB flash drive for backup, you can directly insert the USB flash drive into the computer after completing the installation of 23H2 and then import the data and files.

If you need more help, please feel free to contact us.

Hey Nicholas, thanks for the reply.

I have tried the above steps and it did not work, so I am going to resort to a clean install now.

However, I updated to 24H2 yesterday, definitely not 10 days yet, and the "Go Back" option is greyed out here. Is there any way I can go back to this without having to perform a clean install? I would prefer to try and keep my files.

Also, the link to the ISO file you provided does not work. When I click on it opens a new tab just briefly and closes it out but download doesn't start or anything happens.

And by "manually back up your personal files and materials." Does this mean like backing up my files to another computer or a USB drive? After I clean install 23H2, can I use a backup through Microsoft OneDrive or the defaults "Windows Backup" app (reference below)?

Edit: Please disregard the ISO file link not working. I am going to use UUP dump as provided in the link to the thread you sent.ImageImage

    Hi, pancakes010

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

We understand that your problem is that there is a delay when you press F10 (quick screen lock key) after updating to the 24H2 version of Windows 11. According to the information you provided, this problem will not happen in safe mode, and it will not happen when running a specific game (such as VALORANT), which indicates that some background processes or programs in the system may interfere with the response of this shortcut key. Here are some possible solutions:  I. using Clean Boot to eliminate interference from third-party software:Please refer to How to perform a clean boot in Windows - Microsoft Support*Disclaimer: A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It helps to determine whether a background service is interfering with your game or program and to isolate the cause of a problem.**These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by step so that it will help you get back on track.*II. Try to repair the system1. Search CMD, find the command prompt, and choose to run in administrator mode.2. Enter the following commands one by one. Please be sure to execute the next command after the last one is completed.DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealthDISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealthDISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealthSFC /Scannow3. After scanning, you can check the scanning information, and check whether the problem has been detected and fixed.III. Try to create a local account and then try it in a local account. Does the problem still exist?Search for CMD, then run in administrator mode and enter the following commandnet user USERNAME PASSWORD /addnet localgroup administrators USERNAME /addUSERNAME PASSWORD can be replaced with the account name and PASSWORD you want, and password can be omitted if no password is needed. If there is no problem under the new account, it should be a failure of the account configuration file. Please refer to the scheme under repairing the damaged configuration file in the following article to transfer your data to the new account.*Troubleshoot problems signing in to Windows - Microsoft Support* (The operation steps of *(Windows 11 and Windows 10 are the same, so you can directly refer to the scheme of Windows 10 and implement it. )If the problem still exists after trying all the above schemes, as you said, it may be a compatibility problem of Windows 11 24H2. If you have just finished updating for less than 10 days and saved the folders of Windows.old and $windows.~bt, you can try to roll back to the previous version of Windows 11. Please refer to the following links for specific steps:Go back to the previous version of Windows - Microsoft SupportIf you can't roll back the system, you may need to consider installing the old version of Windows 11 completely. Before performing this step, you must manually back up your personal files and materials. Once the backup is completed, please follow the following steps:1. Download the ISO file of 23H2 according to the method provided by Ramesh, the volunteer host in the link below:Download iso of windows 11 that is older than the newest update (a - Microsoft Community2. After downloading the ISO file, enter the downloaded folder, right-click the downloaded image file, and select the opening mode windows Explorer.3. after opening, select the sources folder to open, find and run the setup running program, and then start to reinstall the system.4. After that, please follow the prompts. After reinstallation, you will be asked to reset the system, and it can be used normally after setup.*Disclaimer: At this point, we have exhausted all troubleshooting and I recommend that we try to perform a clean install to get your computer back into a working condition. Please ensure that you backup any important data, including Documents, Pictures, Videos, and more.*If you have any progress, please feel free to contact us.
