When joining a voice call / channel in discord all windows audio is muted.

Hello!

Since some time ago I've been experiencing audio issues when joining either a call or a voice channel in discord. I am unsure if this problem exists in any other apps.

As soon as I join a discord call / channel all audio from other applications and windows itself seems to be muted. The audio returns to the usual whenever I disconnect from the call / channel.

I've found a workaround, but I find it tedious:

Basically I hit win+R : mmsys.cpl to open audio settings. Go into properties of the audio device. Activate then immediately deactivate "Enable audio enhancements" under the Advanced tab. This fixes the issue until next time I join a discord call / channel.

To add to the mystery my headphones use separate outputs for communications and windows audio outputs. The headset is JBL Quantum 800 for reference.

The audio for the communication is fine always, while the windows audio is muted.

Please help me and please ask me if any other information is needed in order to help me solve this issue!

    Dear Blacksparr0!

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community!

Thanks for the detailed information, which helps us better understand the audio issues you're experiencing in Discord. Based on your description, here are some additional steps and suggestions you can take to try and troubleshoot the issue of muted audio:

    Check your audio device settings:

You've mentioned that toggling "Enable audio enhancements" in the Advanced tab temporarily fixed the problem. You can try disabling this feature completely to see if that fixes the problem permanently.

As you mentioned, make sure the "Default format" is set to an appropriate sample rate, usually "24-bit, 44100 Hertz" or higher.

Adjust sound settings for communication activity:

As you indicated, select "Do nothing" under the "Communications" tab in "Sound" in Control Panel, which will prevent Windows from automatically adjusting the volume when communicating.

    Check Discord application settings:

Open Discord's settings and go to the "Voice and Video" section.

See if there are "Noise Reduction" or "Echo Cancellation" options, and try turning these off as they may interfere with the audio output of other applications.

    Update your audio drivers:

Visit your headset manufacturer's website to check if there are any recent drivers or software updates for your JBL Quantum 800.

    Check your application's audio settings:

Look at other applications that may be using audio and make sure they are not set to use the audio device exclusively.

    Disable hardware acceleration:

In Discord's settings, try turning off hardware acceleration to see if that affects the audio muting issue.

    Reset your audio configuration:

Run the following commands in Command Prompt (Admin) to reset the audio stack: net stop Audiosrv and press Enter, followed by net start Audiosrv and press Enter.

    Check for system updates:

Make sure your Windows operating system is up to date, as system updates may include patches to resolve audio issues.

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, further technical support may be required. In this case, you may consider contacting Discord's customer service or the headset manufacturer's customer service for more professional assistance.

I hope above information can help you. If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know. Tell me the results. I'm looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your understanding and support!

    Best regards,
