Windows Photo Viewer No Longer Works With Windows 11? (Version 24H2)

When I upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11 way back when, I used some workaround from these boards to get Windows Photo Viewer to work with Windows 11.

After the most recent update to Version 24H2, Windows Photo Viewer appears to no longer work again. I get an "App Not Supported" error.

For the time being, I'm using the "Photos" viewer that comes with Windows 11, which is fine. I just like the Windows Photo Viewer better.

Does anyone know if there is yet another workaround for Windows 11, Version 24H2, that supports the Windows Photo Viewer?

Thanks.

There’s nothing wrong with Photos or Photos Legacy. I just prefer the basic look, functionality, and familiarity of Windows Photo Viewer. It’s a personal preference. Yes, when it looked like WPV wouldn’t work with Windows 11 initially, I went searching for something basic and comparable to WPV that I would like. I couldn’t find anything. I can’t tell you if WPV is at the end of its life. I’m guessing yes, because Microsoft did a fine job of hiding it until some very savvy people on these boards figured out a way of turning it back on. That’s proof positive enough for me that they wanted it dead with the migration from Windows 10. I’m not technically savvy enough to tell you why suddenly this updated version of Windows 11 is no longer compatible with WPV. I just know that I like it, and I’m not alone. I guarantee as more people discover this by-product of the latest Windows 11 update, you’ll see more posts about Windows Photo Viewer. A lot of people still use and enjoy it. A perfect example of fixing something that was never broken in the first place :)

WPV (included in Essentials 16.4.3503.0728) simply have the best EXIF tag editor that can manage tags in a tree view that other apps can't take in this way.

What's wrong with Photos or Photos Legacy?

Is Photo Viewer at its End of Life? No longer supported and no new drivers.

Have you looked for other ways to view your photos?
