Dear Carisa Andrews,
Welcome to the Microsoft Community
When a program like The Sims 4 stops responding and crashes, it might be due to a variety of reasons such as outdated drivers, conflicting software, corrupted game files, or issues specific to the game itself.
Here are some suggestions to troubleshoot the issue.
Update Graphics Drivers
Visit the NVIDIA (https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx) or AMD (https://www.amd.com/en/support) website.
Download and install the latest drivers for your graphics card.
Perform a clean installation of the drivers, if possible.
Visit the Intel Driver & Support Assistant (https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/detect.html) to update your integrated graphics drivers.
Verify and Repair Game Files

- Launch The Sims 4.
- Go to Options > Graphics.
- Lower graphics settings and disable features like V-Sync.
- In the game's settings, change the display mode to Windowed or Windowed Fullscreen.

Right-click on TS4_x64.exe and select Properties.
Go to the Compatibility tab and check Run this program as an administrator.
Disable Unnecessary Background Applications
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Under the Processes tab, end tasks for unnecessary background programs that might conflict with the game.
- Press Win + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
- Go to the Services tab and check Hide all Microsoft services.
- Click Disable all.
- Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.
- Disable all startup items.
- Restart your computer.
Disclaimer: A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It helps to determine whether a background service is interfering with your game or program and to isolate the cause of a problem.
These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by step so that it will help you get back on track.
Update DirectX and Visual C++ Redistributables

As a last resort, uninstall The Sims 4 completely via the EA App or Steam and then reinstall it.
If the problem persists, it might be worthwhile to look into specific error messages or logs and consult game-specific or technical support forums for more targeted assistance. Additionally, providing feedback and crash logs to EA support could help in identifying and addressing the issue.
