Computer keeps freezing after a recent Windows Update.
Split from this thread.
My computer downloaded and installed a new Windows update earlier this month. Since that time my computer keeps freezing no matter what program is open. Its not the wifi issue mentioned above as working (or trying to work) within Word does not require wifi. Programs lock. The task bar locks. The task bar disappears. Then the computer will work for about three minutes, then it will lock again. Basically the update made my computer space junk. Checking task manager, it indicates that the memory is being overwhelmed, but nothing much is open. Virus scans have shown no issues.
I have tried to do a restore to a restore point. My earlier restore points have disappeared. I tried to restore to the restore point the day of the download...but it failed. I have tried a more recent restore point (for some reason the computer created 3 or 4 over the period of a few days), but that attempt also failed.
I have eliminated apps. I have shutdown programs. Nothing helps.
Obviously I am not the only person with this issue. There are 23 people reporting it here, and each report probably represents thousands of others who did not report here.
Will Windows be issuing a patch to corrects its problems or do we all need to trash our computers?

2024-11-27T21:15:54+00:00 I went into my pc which has also been freezing since Nov 12, 2024 and saw three updates on that day. I uninstalled the actual update but the stack and security update had no option to uninstall. I restarted my pc and it was fine for about 30 minutes then it froze again - making this horrible sound as well.
So now what do I do, and why can’t I uninstall the other two updates? I’m tired of my pc freezing, which it’s NEVER done before this update, by the way, and right in the middle of my online class I’m teaching!
Thanks,
Jana

2024-10-23T18:49:39+00:00 You posted on a thread about updates for Windows 11 so I assumed you might be referring to a version update or a cumulative update.
I asked a similar question earlier in the thread.
You can't use recovery if it is a cumulative update. All updates of that type have a KB number so if you can go to Settings > Update and security > View update history you should see the update. From there you may have the option to uninstall the update. Also post back the KB number you are referring to.

Its the first time you are asking me! The latest update is cumulative windows 10 22h2 x 64. My computer is a few years old (maybe 3) and cannot support Windows 11.
I have tried to restore to an earlier version but earlier restore points were wiped out. It tried restoring to the earliest I still have October 9, 2024, but that failed.
Is Recovery something different?

I have asked this previously. Are you referring to the latest version update 24H2, or a cumulative update for version 23H2.?
You should be looking for the Recovery option in settings to roll back the update, if it is the new version update to 24H2 that is causing the problem.
