Win10/Win11 Metro bootloader is always activated at first power on

Hello,

I have dual Win10 22H2 + Win11 24H2 up to date for my desktop, I am used to have the classic system selection menu (black style) because it is much faster than the Metro (blue), the problem is when I power on the PC (shut down and power on, not restart) the Metro selection menu is always activated at the first time, then if I restart it goes back to the classic.

I tried several ways like "bcdedit /set {bootmgr} displaybootmenu yes"; disable the Metro bootloader via bcd tools, but still not work for every fresh power on... therefore really appreciate if somebody would support me to restore the classic menu? Is there any setting in the UEFI BIOS for it? I really love the classic menu so much!

BRs,

Cyrus

    Hi Cyrus,

The entries look ok. Maybe renaming the BCD via WinRE and rebuilding it is worth a try. To backup the BCD beforehand, please run:

    bcdedit /export C:\BCD.bak

    Hi Cyrus,

Please run "bcdedit /enum all" and post the output. Let's see if I can find something.

    Hi Ramesh,

Thank you so much for your help! I would say the problem is somehow solved ;-)

Actually I have 2 UEFI bootloaders, one from Win 10 + one from Win 11, after I set the boot menu policy to legacy:

    • boot via Win 11 UEFI, works perfect to have classic Windows Boot Manager for both fresh power on / restart
    • boot via Win 10 UEFI, the behavior is the same, fresh power on => Metro; restart => Windows Boot Manager

As compared there is not difference for these 2 bcdedit settings / outputs, I also tried different setting combination for the Win 10 UEFI, e.g.:

    1. Win 10 default system, bcdedit {default} legacy, {current} legacy
    2. Win 11 defualt system, bcdeidt {default} standard, {current} legacy

But the issue was reproduced... so do you have any clue about that?

    Thank you + good day!

    BRs,

    Cyrus

    Hi Cyrus, This is Ramesh.

Please see if setting the boot menu policy to "legacy" helps. See Option 2 in this link:
