Trouble with audio, even though device is not muted?

I have been having trouble with the audio on my Dell Inspirion 16. It is a newer device, so I am unsure as to why the sound suddenly does not work out of nowhere. When I play a video game, the sound for the game works just fine, but if I try to listen to music or watch a video on my laptop it does not work. My volume is not muted, and apps and Windows are allowed to use the device for audio. Additionally, volume mixer is not muted and does not seem to be particularly out of whack. Any thoughts as to what to do would be helpful!

Thank you for the confirmation. Hmm, let's try reinstalling/updating the drivers.

Open Device Manager (Windows + X > Device Manager).

Expand Sound, video, and game controllers.

Right-click your audio driver (e.g., Realtek High Definition Audio) and select Update driver.

If no updates are available, choose Uninstall device and restart your computer to let Windows reinstall the driver automatically.

Test audio playback in your browser again.

My apologies about that. May I ask if you have tried on a different browser? Does the same issue still happen?

Also, please check the settings of your browser.

Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner, then go to Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings.

Scroll to Sound under "Content" and make sure it’s set to “Allow sites to play sound.”

Check if specific sites like Spotify are listed under Mute and remove them.

Please let me know if this works for you. I'll do my best to respond as soon as possible.

If you go to System > Sound > Volume mixer does it show your browser or the app you're using to play audio?

Yes, the audio does not work in the browser, for example, if I open Spotify within the chrome browser it will not play sound, but if I open a pc game outside of the browser the sound is as normal. Within the system settings, when I "test" the speakers with the 16 bit, 48000 Hz tone, I can hear the tone. However, when I troubleshoot the problem in the Microsoft "Get Help" app, it is unable to resolve the issue and the sound within the browser/the spotify app does not play.

Hello there! I am Charity, I'm an Independent Advisor. I'm glad to help you today!

May I ask if you're playing music/video on the browser? Does the sound work in system settings, or other applications? Have you also checked if the audio that you're trying to play is on default?

    Kind Regards,

    Charity
