Enabling TPM 2.0 on my pc

Hi there.

I was about to upgrade my windows 10 to 11 so I did a Device Performance and Health Check to find out that " This PC doesn't currently meet Windows11 system requirements" and " TPM 2.0 must be supported and enabled on this PC."

Did some research to find out if I can enable it through my UEFI BIOS Utility, and as far as I get my system doesn't support it.

Please let me know what I should do. Is it possible to add a discrete TPM 2.0 chip to my motherboard??

Sadly I can't insert a photo due to some unknown reasons...

In BIOS there's no security settings page but In BIOS>>Boot>>Secure Boot State says "user", that's it, nothing more...

In Windows Security >> Device Security >> says:

Standard hardware security not supported

Your device does not meet the requirements for standard hardware security. Devices have different hardware built in that windows uses to provide additional protection.

Secure Boot State: "Off"

BaseBoard Manufacturer: ASUSTek COMPUTER INC.

BaseBoard product: PRIME B460M-A

BIOS Mode: UEFI

BIOS Version/Date: American Megatrends Inc. 1605, 4/7/2021

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700 CPU @ 2.90 GHz

    Hi N,

I'm sorry for the delay, I have a different timezone but I'm here now to help. :)

As I could see, your motherboard does indeed support TPM, but it has only a TPM socket so you can install a separate module. BUT perhaps it supports firmware TPM.

I'll show you how you can configure the TPM at BIOS in your motherboard:

    • Enter BIOS via F12/F2 on logo screen.
    • Go to Advanced tab
    • PCH-FW Configuration
    • Toggle the default option to Firmware TPM
    • Go to Exit tab, Save & Exit, Reboot

Let me know if this works!

    Hi Francisco,

Thanks a lot for your reply, and yes of course here's my motherboard model:

    BaseBoard product: PRIME B460M-A

    BaseBoard Version: Rev 1.xx

I hope it's possible to insert an external TPM module to my motherboard, otherwise I'll have to upgrade my entire motherboard, cpu etc. which I may not be able to afford :(

    Hi N,

I'm an Independent Advisor and I'm happy to help you.

Since you can find Secure Boot properties at your BIOS, your motherboard may still support an external TPM module. Can you please find your motherboard model and post it here? I will search if something can be made. :)

TPM 2.0 needs to be built in to your motherboard and processor. It can't be added by software.

Thus "This PC doesn't currently meet Windows11 system requirements" because "TPM 2.0 [cannot] be supported and enabled on this PC."

This is the reason why millions of otherwise perfectly good Windows 10 PCs (like mine) aren't eligible to be upgraded to Windows 11.
