CPU for new laptop for Windows 11 and Beyond

In a few months, I'll need to purchase a new laptop as my current one does not meet the hardware requirements for Windows 11. I am not a gamer, I am just a casual user but I use my Windows laptop everyday for what I consider my important stuff.

What CPU, etc. should I purchase so that when Microsoft releases the next Window, e.g., Windows 12, etc., my new laptop can potentially meet the hardware requirements. I don't need my Windows laptop for video creation as I am not into that, I do watch and download videos. Also, I do not need my Windows laptop to be on the go as I have another device for that. I don't need the high-end stuff so it will not be pricey.

    Hello,Hey there MSSW

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

Thank you very much for your feedback. I have carefully read the information and problem description you provided.

If you plan to buy a new laptop, it is mainly used for daily processing of important tasks, does not require high-end configuration, and does not create videos or play games. Considering that you do not need high-end performance and hope that the laptop can support future operating system updates, I recommend choosing the following configuration:

    1. CPU

Intel Core i5 (12th generation and later) or AMD Ryzen 5 (6000 series and later), these mid-range processors are sufficient in performance to meet daily work needs, including web browsing, office applications, video playback and other tasks.

    1. Memory

At least 16GB of memory for daily use can ensure a smooth experience when you open multiple programs and browser tabs. If the budget allows, choosing 32GB would be a better choice. The price of memory is not expensive now, and the prompt of large memory for experience is very direct.

    1. Storage

Solid-state drives have significant performance improvements over traditional mechanical hard drives (HDDs), which can speed up system startup and application loading. For video downloads and viewing, 1TB is a good starting point.

    1. Display and Graphics

You don't need a high-performance discrete graphics card. Integrated graphics (such as Intel Iris Xe or AMD Radeon Vega) are more than enough to support HD video playback and daily applications.

    Best regards
