    Hi, sehaj

Your computer isn’t opening files with the correct apps.

To fix this, go to Settings > Apps > Default Apps.

These are the most common file types and their corresponding apps

    • .png/.jpg/.jpeg: Photos or your preferred image viewer.
    • .docx: Microsoft Word.
    • .pdf: Microsoft Edge.
    • .txt: Notepad.
    • .xlsx: Microsoft Excel.
    • .pptx: Microsoft PowerPoint.

    This should resolve the issue.

    Hello sehaj,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community and I'll be glad to assist you today.

I understand you're having trouble opening Documents, Screenshots, and other files on your device.

    1. Could you please provide the exact error code or message you see when trying to open these files?
    2. Are you experiencing the same error when opening the files from a different location?

Just move a set of documents or screenshots to a different folder (or create a new One) and open it from there. See if you are experiencing the same error.

    1. Assign applications to open the files - It seems that the files you're trying to open might not have the correct application assigned to them. You can assign the appropriate application to open these files.

Right-click any document or files >> Select Open With >> Select the desired app (for e.g .doc uses Microsoft Word), >> Click Always at the bottom.

Double-click the file to open it and see if it opens without any error.

I hope this information helps. If you have any questions, please let me know and I will be happy to help you further.

    Best regards,

    Gunasekar N
