How to show time with seconds when clicking on the clock in the system tray?

In Windows 10, when I clicked on the date/time in the system tray, I would get an enlarged view of the clock which displayed the seconds.

This ability appears to be removed in Windows 11.

I see there is an option to now display the seconds on the taskbar.

I am seeking to see if there is a way to have the seconds shown only when I click on the time, to see the enlarged view, rather than have the seconds showing all the time.

Essentially seeking to be able to view the clock similar to how it was shown in Windows 10 when clicked on.

Thanks for any comments.

Most good-intended repliers are missing the point of the original post.

What has disappeared is what I'll refer to as the 'countdown' clock that showed up when you click on the time/date on the task bar. Note that the countdown clock could be set up to show seconds with the clock in the task bar NOT showing seconds. With the software update, the countdown clock has disappeared altogether, with no setting to get it back - all in the name of minimizing the running of background apps (speculation here).

Benefits that I miss that has been taken away:

    • Task bar did not have seconds showing that could be a distraction.
    • A big 'countdown' timer showed up only when a user clicked on the task bar so a user can see seconds only when they wanted to.
    • Did I mention it was nice and BIG.
    • This was great when you log into a Teams meeting, realize that there is still some time left, and didn't want to join prematurely.
    • Quick way to get a countdown timer for any quick tasks that required seconds monitoring.

    BRING THIS FEATURE BACK!

Windows 11 should not be taking away options for users. I have visual issues and I used to click on it to bring up the time larger for my needs. This has been taken away and Microsoft needs to change this back now as this is inaccessible for those with visual needs. I loathe Windows 11 so much and despite my choosing to go back, stated successfully but rebooted and it had not gone back. It has removed accessibility options for users which makes Microsoft ableist; it is disgusting.

Thinks for removing another useful feature Microsoft. Workaround: To get time including seconds and milliseconds, you can open CMD and enter echo %time%

From PowerShell, you can use Get-Date -Format HH:mm:ss.fff, or just Get-Date if you only don't need milliseconds.

Found a workaround: create a shortcut %SystemRoot%\System32\cmd.exe /C %SystemRoot%\System32\control.exe "%SystemRoot%\System32\timedate.cpl", this can be pinned to the task bar (optionally select a nice clock icon beforehand, like the clock from shell32.dll).
