No surround sound option

Even though I have connected my pc to a sound system through an optical cable I'm not getting the surround sound option in the speaker configure menu I only get stereo option no 5.1ch or 7.1ch

Audio driver is realtek v6.0.9700.1

If I need 5.1ch I should have a very old version of the audio driver

    Hi, Rohan Ravi

    Thank you for your reply!

The multi-channel setting is related to your driver and device, so rolling back the driver is the only and effective solution, which also echoes the method IV provided in my first reply. Could you please click "Yes" for the reply with the solution? This will help other users who encounter the same problem and provide them with a reference case. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

    hi,

i now degraded the driver to an much older version, now it has 5.1ch audio output. Works perfectly fine but if i update it to the recent version i get default format options till 24 bits 192000Hz (studio quality). Now i have both DTS interactive 5.1ch and dolby digital 5.1ch along with others!

    Correct behaviour.

Your motherboard doesn't come with Dolby Digital, therefore your optical can only do stereo PCM.

    Hi, Rohan Ravi

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

We understand that you have connected your PC to the sound system via a fiber optic cable, but you do not see a problem with the surround sound option in the audio configuration menu. This may be related to factors such as driver and device compatibility. In addition, if the computer sound card does not support the 5.1 and 7.1 channel functions, it will also cause the problem to occur. It is recommended that you try the following troubleshooting steps:  I.Check hardware and connectionsMake sure the connection is correct:* Confirm that the fiber optic cable has been correctly inserted into the fiber optic interface of the PC and the audio system.* Confirm that the sound system supports and is configured to receive 5.1-channel or 7.1-channel audio input.II.Update and configure audio driversUpdate audio driver:• Try to download the latest Realtek audio driver from the official ASUS website.Even if you say that the old version may support 5.1 channels more, it is recommended to try the latest version of the driver first.• Visit the official ASUS driver download page, find your motherboard model ROG B550-F Wi-Fi II, then download and install the latest audio driver.Configure Realtek audio manager:• After installing the driver, open the Realtek Audio Manager (which can be found in the system tray).• In the digital output (optical fiber) settings, make sure that the surround sound settings are selected and applied.III.Configure audio settings in WindowsConfigure audio equipment:•Right-click the volume icon in the taskbar and select "Sound Settings".•Select your fiber optic connection device under "Output device“ and click ”Device Properties".• Then click "Additional Device Properties” and select the format with surround sound options (such as Dolby Digital or DTS) in the ”Advanced" tab.Sound control panel settings:• Open the "Control Panel” and select "Sound".• In the playback tab, find and select your fiber output device, and click the ”Configure" button.• See if you can see the 5.1-channel or 7.1-channel options. If so, please select and test. IV.Fall back to the old version of the driver (if necessary) Uninstall the current driver:* Open "Device Manager” (press Win + X to select "Device Manager”).* Expand "Sound, Video, and Game Controllers”, right-click on the Realtek audio device, and select "Uninstall Device”.•Check the ”Delete driver software for this device“ option, and then click ”Uninstall".Install the old version of the driver:• If it is determined that the old version of the driver supports 5.1 channels, you can find and download the old version of the driver on Asus's official website or other secure driver download sites.* Install the old version of the driver, and then restart the PC.V.Check the sound system and contentSound system configuration:* Confirm that your sound system is configured correctly and is set to receive and process 5.1/7.1 sounds.* Confirm that the content you are playing actually supports surround sound (such as DVD, Blu-ray, games, etc.), and select the correct audio output format in the playback software. If the problem persists after you try the above steps, it means that the problem may be related to your device and the driver provided by the device. It is recommended to contact ASUS technical support or your audio system manufacturer for further assistance.Hope these steps can help you solve the problem and restore the normal surround sound audio experience.I wish you a smooth use!

    Best Regards
